Following is a list of specialty camps available to youngsters in the parishes of Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, St. James and St. John the Baptist.


ARTS AND MUSIC CAMPS


ACADEMY OF THE SACRED HEART "ORFF IN THE SUMMER" MUSIC CAMP (504-891-1943): Singing, movement, speech and instrument playing with literature and arts for students, ages 4-7. 9 a.m.-noon July 11-15. $125 fee includes snacks and supplies. At 4521 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans.

CONTEMPORARY ARTS CENTER'S SUMMER ART CAMP (504-528-3805): Children, ages 6-13, participate in studio workshop, learning to communicate through the arts via activities designed to develop artistic, social and intellectual skills. Camp encompasses theater, dance, music, visual arts and more. GREATER NEW ORLEANS SUZUKI FORUM SUMMER MUSIC CAMP (504-733-3159): Music instruction, activities and concerts for violin, piano, harp, guitar, viola, cello and bass for ages 2-20. 8:30 a.m.-3:15 p.m. July 11-16. MISSOULA (MONTANA) CHILDREN'S THEATRE CAMP (985-652-9817): The St. John Theatre will present the Missoula Children's Theater in a workshop for youngsters entering kindergarten-grade 12. Students will work on a production of "The Frog Prince" presented by the nationally acclaimed touring production company from Missoula, Mont. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 1-6. $50. MUSIC ACADEMY FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS (985-626-8645): "Musical Stories & Suites" offers youngsters, ages 6-8 and 9-12, an introduction of the musical suites -- "Billy the Kid,' "Mother Goose," "The Nutcracker," "Peter & the Wolf" and "Carnival of the Animals" -- through a study of orchestral instruments, musical form, listening, games and arts and crafts. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 20-24. ST. PHILIP NERI DRAMA CAMP (504-467-4423, mailbox 2): Youngsters entering grades 2-9 participate in various theater activities, both indoor and outdoor, such as games to help develop acting/social skills, set painting, and rehearsals for a full-scale production to be presented at end of camp. 4-6 p.m. June 13-Aug. 5. $100 for eight-week session. SKYFIRE THEATRE CAMP (985-875-7577): Skyfire Theater offers two acting camps for young performers, ages 8-16. Session I: 1-5 p.m. Weekdays June 6-26, concludes with performances on June 25-26. BIG BRANCH MARSH SUMMER CAMP (985-882-2022): Children, ages 9-11, learn about the past, present and future of a refuge while engaging in hikes, fishing, canoeing and other activities. 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 20-24. $12. CAMP CAMELLIA GIRL SCOUT DAY CAMP (985-847-2328, 985-781-9042): Crafts, songs, nature and animal exploration will revolve around the theme "Aloha" for girls in kindergarten-grade 6. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 6-10. $30. $40 for nonregistered scouts. CAMP INVENTION (800-968-4332): Youngsters entering grades 2-6 are immersed in five different hands-on adventures to enhance their understanding of science, math, history and the arts in this nonprofit program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Participants design amusement park rides, conduct environmental experiments, become sound engineers, explore the mechanics of simple machines and disassemble them to create their own.
