...CDRW-700 thanks in large part to advice gleaded from the now disappeared CD Burner thread.
Anyway, I believe it was Kevin B. who pointed me in that direction, and graypencil and Jazzooo have also spoken of the wisdom of a heavier duty studio unit for home recording.
Couldn't find it new anywhere for less than $475, with $499 the more usual price.
Reeled it in on eBay, gently used from a B-3 player who's moving and has a triple A rating, for $330. Should arrive in a day or two.
I'll be back at the vinyl stacks for more custom mixes soon!

I have seen a lot of great deals on this one lately. Tell us how it goes!!

Hope you haven't seen (m)any better deals than the one I got.

I did do a lot of research. This model appears to be built like a tank, and it's the No. 1 choice of bootleggers for that reason. (And, no, I'm not gonna boot anything.)

Wow, Chris, $330 for a Tascam. That sounds like a great deal. The research I did on this a while back seemed to show that Tascam has the best transport of any of the commercial-grade recorders. My audio deck is still limping along (knock on wood) so I won't be looking yet but be sure to let us know how this works out for you.

Later,
Kevin

Yes, Kevin, the quality of the drive (a Teac computer-grade burner) was a big part of what took me to the Tascam. Hope it shows up today!

I was a little lucky on my auction, in that the recorder was tucked in the DVD recorder section, so it didn't get much action. I won on a proxy bid; I was willing to go to $350.

If anyone's looking for one, there's a CDRW700 slipping through under "karaoke equipment." No reserve, and it was cheap at last view. Sounds like the guy has used it three times and the bar he was working at went under.

Smebody found karaoke boy. With an hour left, it's up to $320.

Set that puppy up last night, and it is sweeeeeeeeeeeet.
More features than I'll ever use, feels solid, intuitive meters, nice hookup options (RCAs, coax, optical digital).
Slapped the Stones' "Flowers" onto a disc, and it went quite well.
This rig can even be set up to automatically insert track breaks on LPs (I'll have to play with that, to see where the vinyl soundfloor is so I can set the dB trigger).
