I've been given a Revox B795 turntable. It comes with a Shure V15/IV - MR cartridge which needs a new stylus and there is a new Ortofon VMS20EO that
came with the turntable as an original accessory. Should I buy a replacement cartridge for the Shure which looks like it may be difficult to find not to mention expensive or install the Ortofon?

Thanks

I've always loved Ortofons. I'd say install it and see how you like it.
You should be able to find that Shure stylus should you want it through an outfit like Jerry Raskin's Needle Doctor.

Wazzup All!

I used to own a Revox B791 many years ago. Is the 795 the same type of TT as the 791 where the needle goes straight across the record? Built like a tank but fussy about cartridges. Mechanically challenging, if in need of repair I'd imagine it would be costly. Keeping that in mind, I'd opt for the cheapest cart available that'll work just to ascertain whether the TT is functioning properly. Interesting note, the 791 was actually recommended for blind people based on how it worked; place record on mat, swing the arm mechanism over the record, press a button for the needle to drop. It was pretty cool. Traded mine for a Mapleknoll Athena and finally for my beloved Linn LP12. 3 tables in the last 23 yrs with the Linn hangin' in there for the last 15, still singin' like an angel!!;)
