Brooklyn, NY, Saturday, September 29, 8pm; The Roger Lent Octet kicks off the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music’s Faculty Showcase Series.
The Roger Lent Octet was first conceived for Roger’s graduate recital at Rutgers University in 1999. Roger has since added about 18 arrangements to his book of octet music. The ensemble is 3 saxophones, trumpet, trombone, bass, piano and drums. It is in the style and tradition of classic American jazz groups of the last half century. All the music being heard at this showcase event was orchestrated by Roger Lent. It consists mostly of his own original compositions and four adaptations of compositions by Duke Ellington, J.S. Bach, Victor Feldman and Kenny Kirkland. The style would be categorized as modern acoustic jazz music with a strong foundation in the history of American jazz music. The musicians playing on today’s program are some of the most creative young musicians working today in New York, and can be heard regularly in the finest Jazz venues.
Next in the series, on Saturday, October 20, 2007, is a concert by pianist Doug Booth with his group Digital Soul. Future concerts include performances by; Gina Samardge & Alex Vasallo on Saturday, November 10; Tom Millioto on December 7; Noah Haidu on January 25, 2008, Oran Etkin on February 29, 2008 and Alex Gurevich on March 14, 2008, Nakia Verner, Saturday April 5, 2008 and Cesar Vuksic, May 3, 2008.
