CENTRAL BROOKLYN JAZZ CONSORTIUM CELEBRATION


"Generations of Jazz"


The Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium/CBJC presents its 8th anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 6, 2007 in Fort Greene, Brooklyn at the live music venue JAZZ 966 (966 Fulton Street) from 3:00 to 7:30 PM. This year's festive event is titled, "Generations of Jazz" with performances highlighting four (4) groups and food tastings from some of the best Brooklyn eateries.

Artists scheduled to appear include, internationally renowned vocalist Vanessa Rubin; outstanding saxophonist Gerald Hayes; rising star gospel troupe St. Marks Praise Dancers; and the acclaimed ensemble of Kenyatta Beasley, Keith Loftis, Anthony Wonsey and E J Strickland collectively known as The New Cookers. Local restaurants are bringing a taste of their best to top off an afternoon celebration with jazz favorites, great food and lots of friends. The popular Fort Greene jazz venue, JAZZ 966, is located at 966 Fulton Street between Grand Avenue and St. James Place, phone at 718.638.6910.

"The 8th year celebration marks CBJC's ongoing efforts to promote live jazz in the community. This is our mission and we are delighted that we have these talented musicians who are supporting our efforts," stated CBJC Chairman Jitu Weusi.

Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium, founded in 1999, is an amalgam of jazz musicians, entertainment venues, patrons of the music, faith and community based organizations. Over the past eight (8) years they have presented an annual spring festival, established a Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame and produced yearly programs of events and activities that feature local jazz talent. CBJC is a nonprofit corporation committed to preserving, promoting and supporting live music within the African American inner city community.
