Kidd played some absolutely beautiful and spirited music a couple of weeks ago in NY as part of the Columbia/Harlem Fest. I only wish that those who have spoken less favorably of Kidd as an artist, based on Vision Fest sets, could have heard him. The sextet of David Murray, Kidd, Roy Campbell, Dave Burrell, Harrison Bankhead, and Hamid Drake, set the corner of 3rd Avenue and 118th Street afire. One night Kidd performed a late Coltrane-esque ballad that was the essence of everything good about jazz and improvised music. After five sets in three nights, Murray spoke of Kidd as being "THE cat in New Orleans". Kidd has survived losing his home and all of his worldly belongings to the flood and has carried on with a tremendous amount of positive energy and passion in his music and his relationships with people. Folks in DC, Baltimore, and Philly should feel fortunate. Hope you can get out and enjoy.

Those Murray/Kidd sextet shows sound amazing, Pat, thanks for reporting. I forgot earlier to ask you how that band sounded.
