I did a bunch of gigs in and around Barcelona years ago, and most everybody i know is gone...the scene there shifts very rapidly.

You might try some of The Wire's archival material. I think they featured the Barcelona scene a few months ago.

Anybody else?

Barcelona is the home of pianist Agustí Fernández who has played and recorded with many greats of the international free music scene (Marilyn Crispell, William Parker, Susie Ibarra, Butch Morris, Evan Parker, Derek Bailey, John Butcher etc. etc.). He's one third of the Barcelonian "Trio Local" (with Joan Saura-sampler and Liba Villavecchia-sax) whose two CDs are well worth checking out. Saw/heard a solo set of Agustí at the Total Music Meeting 2001 and was blown away by the astute construction and emotionally engaging feel of his performance which might have been the most rewarding and lasting of the whole festival. Currently Agustí plays in Barry Guy's New Orchestra (concerts in France, June/July 2003). ECM probably will release a live set by the Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic ensemble featuring A.F.

A google search using "Agusti Fernandez" as keywords will guide you to his website.
