The Kenny Barron Trio

Kenny Barron is on everybody's favorite pianists list. Now 60, he's been nominated for numerous Grammys, has appeared with all of the greats, and is a regular for one- and two-week stints at New York's major jazz clubs. This appearance features his trio.

Wednesday, May 21 / 7 pm

The Steve Turre Quintet's J. J. Johnson Tribute

Known worldwide as a trombonist and conch seashellist, Steve Turre has developed a two-trombone quintet tribute to the bebop legend J. J. Johnson. In conjunction with the release of his new Telarc CD and a Kennedy Center appearance, Turre's quintet performs a set featuring Johnson favorites from the master's long career.



Thursday, June 5 / 7 pm

Celebration of Benny Goodman with the Loren Schoenberg Big Band

Join Loren Schoenberg for a fun evening looking into both the well-known and more obscure areas of Benny Goodman's prodigious repertoire. The Loren Schoenberg Big Band was hired by Mr. Goodman to be his last orchestra in 1985, and they appeared with him on the PBS Let's Dance Special and toured the country with him. Mr. Schoenberg is also a noted lecturer and author, and will provide a running commentary on the program and his years with Mr. Goodman. Benny Goodman remains an American icon and his music continues to be popular around the world. Program is followed by a reception.
