This used to be pretty much the "whitest of white" jazz events (with few exceptions) but I see that they have at least six African-Americans this time around!! Could it be that Orange County is finally getting a little hipper?!?
Sorry, guys, just couldn't resist it!!!

That IS good news ;-)
[Back in the day when I lived in Costa Misery, er, Mesa we Liberals needed to keep our heads down and eyes open.]
If I'm in the OC area at that time, I'll try to take in the show.

Yes Virginia, Orange County has changed. We now have a Democrat congresswoman and Democrat members of the state legislature.
The righties lose ground every day.
Back to the important stuff - JAZZ!
We always look forward to Kenny Drew's playing. What a powerhouse!
I won't go into also the players of color who have played at the Party, but there have been a lot over the years like Gerald Wilson, Ray Brown, Byron Stripling, Henry Johnson and Sherman Ferguson.
I usually skip the concert by the pool because the acoustics aren't the best but this year I'm looking forward to seeing Anne Patterson's wonderful Maiden Voyage band.
The harbor cruise is a blast, you get a chance to visit with the players and the food is outstanding.
Plus it's not a mob scene wit a lot of marginal and even non-jazz players like the Playboy.
That's just one man's opinion.
