Who all is going? By the way, I entered the subject in all caps and the software changed it.

I'm skipping this time. Monday night for one thing and, though I basically enjoyed them the last two times they were through, I don't have the impression that I really need to hear them again for a while.

Although I don't see his name listed in the lineup, I heard that tenor saxophonist Tobias Delius is with the ICP for this tour. I hope that it is true. Anyone know for sure? I'll catch 'em in Ann Arbor this weekend regardless.

I've never seen Insane Clown Posse without their makeup.
Oh, that ICP!

The latest issue of Down Beat (with Regina Carter on the cover) reports that Delius will indeed join ICP on their North American tour this spring.

Is "poseur" better or worse than "hobbyist"?
Reynolds may very well badger you then not show up himself.

Spectacular show from a great bunch of "poseurs." I suppose I understand why certain of our more "advanced" correspondents aren't too interested in them: they have the audacity to play JAZZ.
As always, clusters of loose improv alternating with the tightest of ensemble playing. Over the course of 2 sets they did 3 Monk tunes, one Nichols, and a bunch of originals. It was the second time I've seen them. Several folks who have seen them more thought this was about the best performance yet.
Brian, I'm interested in your lack of interest in ICP, since you seem to catch the Breuker Kollektief every time they come to town. I like Breuker, but I find ICP to be a much more satisfying organization--much more meat on the bone.

Pete, believe me, I feel even less actual enthusiasm for WBK these days, but since I've caught them *every* time they've hit NYC since 1977 (their first appearance here at my old, beloved Environ, when they were routinely incredible), I feel a certain moral obligation. More like a hair shirt sometimes.
I don't have anything really against ICP at all and probably would've gone if it was on a more convenient night, I just didn't feel like I was likely to hear anything much different than I've heard the last two times (I could obviously turn out to have been wrong). Given an objective choice these days, there's no question I'd rather hear ICP than WBK as a group, although I'm still really fond of several of Breuker's crew, especially, Gorter, Raaymakers and Altenfelder. Glad you enjoyed, though.

Who knows how closely the concert I saw earlier in the month corresponded to what you saw, but when I saw them I couldn't exactly characterize them as having the "tightest of ensemble playing." Their ensemble playing was well-done but the arrangements didn't seem especially demanding and it was all a bit bland. For me it was pleasant but I would have preferred leaner and tastier meat on that bone.

You'll have to don that hair shirt again in June. Breuker is playing Joe's Pub.

Spinning Song. The Monks were Criss Cross (first set), Off Minor & 'Round Midnight (second set).

I won't be able to make the Hang because I'm committed to attend family weddings on three of the weekends in June. On the fourth weekend I have to attend a graduation/retirement party. I'm hoping to come into the city on the thursday and/or friday before the Hang to hook up with anyone that's already in town...................
Shit, I just remembered. I'm not even going to be around the last week in May. I'll be in California................
