Hi Sand

I found the models with large storage take hours to render a dvd... and I did a bit of investigation into this. I ended up instead with the sony dvd/vhs combo recorder - you can record from one format to the other or record a dvd from the tv.. I'm very happy with this. And it takes only a few minutes to render a first rate movie or tv program. It also has 2 modes of play and takes double layer dvds as well.

On the other hand I also have a dvd recorder built into my Sony Vaio and then rendering for an hours takes almost 5 hours longer... I dont know if that helps. Sony, Phillips and Panasonic all have products that do both at reasonable prices. I went with Sony because I had a 200 coupon, but also they invented this shit remember beta... but I looked for a long time at the Panasonic.

Hope this helps

Is there even a hard disk recorder that has SACD capability? I've never seen one.

Not for public consumption, as far as I know.

Thanks for the input, Lois, I'll look into it. It may be a good idea to use this as a transitional tool, even more so now that my vcr said goodbye.

Vibes/Chris D: Re SACD

There's $2000-3000 dollar hard disk recorder with SACD, I believe. It will probably change. In the meantime they want to sell as many boxes as possible.
