I admit to having and using an equalizer on my computer. Why do you ask?

I don't own one, but I'm not opposed to the idea like I used to be. The argument against is, of course, of the "no extra gear in the signal chain!" variety, but looking at the litany of rather expensive hoops audiophiles jump through to balance their non-eq'd systems...tube rolling, cable upgrades, endlessly upgrading amps to find the best synergy with their speakers, etc....sheesh, wouldn't a good equalizer do the job a lot easier?

Of course, technology has caught up with equalizers, like it has with everything else...enter the Behringer DEQ2496 (http://www.behringer.com/DEQ2496/index.cfm?lang=ENG). Digital in and out, so no more signal chain 'purity' issues, a ton of flexibility, and can be found for around $300.

Here's a link (http://members.cox.net/yrogerg/headphones/eq%20update.pdf) to a .pdf by a guy using one in an audiophile headphone set up.

So go ahead! Tame those sibilant digital artifacts! Warm those mids! Pump up that bass! It's all good...
