It looks like we need a thread for the Playboy Jazz Festival!! I half expected to find a previous multi-year discussion group on PBJF that I had seen before, so if there is something I've missed, point me there.
Quick intro...my name is Vince Outlaw and I host The New Jazz Thing (http://TheNewJazzThing.com) each Thursday evening from 6 to 9 pm PT (2-5 UTC) on Jazz 88 in San Diego. I've been going to the PBJF for quite a few years now and think it is one of the best Jazz parties around...the scene at the Hollywood Bowl is just unsurpassed in concert experiences in my experience...considering all factors like music, people, party-enablers, and the venue. During the PBJF season, my show plays host to Live interviews from lots of the performing artists and those that help make the show(s) happen. At the actual events, I've done most of my radio work ahead of time, so I cruise around looking for interesting people and experiences and try to capture those in picture and sound...using mobile, Live digital technology. And I try to post as much of the news and events about PBJF on....
The Playboy Jazz Festival Weblog (http://thenewjazzthing.com/categories/playboyJazzFestival2002Weblog/)
Some quick details from the press conference yesterday at the Mansion...community events around So Cal begin in May and continue right up to the climactic weekend at the Hollywood Bowl, June 11-12, 2005.
A couple of audio posts live from the mansion, for those interested in listening:
World Debut Announcement of June 11-12 acts (http://www.thenewjazzthing.com/vinceoutlaw/archives/000527.html)
First Impressions by VO and Jazz 88 DJ Ron Dhanifu (http://www.thenewjazzthing.com/vinceoutlaw/archives/000533.html)
I've got some camera phone pictures I took and posted Live from the press conference and they can be viewed at: http://flickr.com/photos/vo/sets/145788/ I will be adding some more of my digi-cam pictures to this set.
If others want to share pictures from any of the events, I'd recommend using the Flickr photo sharing service...it's very cool. I've set-up a Flickr Group to which anyone can add their pictures: http://flickr.com/groups/playboyjazzfestival/
Finally, I will be starting my string of Live Playboy Jazz Festival interviews TONIGHT on The New Jazz Thing (Thursday, March 3, 2005) in my 7 to 8 pm PT slot (3-4 UTC) with Dick Rosenzweig, executive vice president of Playboy Enterprises, and Darlene Chan, producer of the PBJF for George Wein's Festival Productions. We'll talk about the history of PBJ and PBJF and then how Darlene and crew came up with the great line-up for the fest. You can hear the interviews live on Jazz 88, KSDS San Diego, 88.3 FM with World Wide Webcast at http://Jazz88Online.org. I will post a link to the archive audio for those who can't join us live!!
Let the festivities begin!!!
