My wife and I are currently taking a darkroom class and last night I developed my first roll, some pics from Italy and Croatia. My primary interest is in developing medium format 120 film from this baby:
Unspooling and rolling the film in the changing bag was a HUGE pain in the ass, I imagine it gets easier though. The developing process was pretty straightforward, not too hard but it helped to have my wife with the stopwatch. Making a contact sheet was a little harder and I didnt quite grasp all the finer points, he's going to go over it again next time. However the negatives I did develop last night look pretty sharp and I am excited to see the other 9 undeveloped rolls I have from this summer. I was a little nervous since I had never used the Yashica before.
As some of you may know, I work in three different formats, medium format which is great for a number of reasons: the large negative, the top down viewfinder which allows you to take pictures of people inconspicuously.
Also Digital
I like the size and versatility of the digital, as well as the fact that I can do a lot of post-production work on my computer. I also have a Pentax ZX-L with a zoom lens,
It is both automatic and manual, and I am just beginning to learn how to navigate all the manual features. The zoom is a huge plus, and is the automatic capabilities, which are pretty much idiot-proof. I also have a very lightweight tripod which is easy to carry. Most of my pictures I post to
my flickr acct but as I begin developing more film, I will post pics of interest here.
My main goal over the next few weeks and months is to upload my best pics from Guinea, Australia / NZ, other areas of Europe, and Southwest US. And if necessary, reprint the B&W ones in the darkroom if I dont like them. I have a lot of pics I want ot catalogue and group. Flickr is good for that. Also I need to organize the negatives as well. Also I need to start taking more pics in this area but also SF. More later
