How Many JC Posters Have You Met?

Of the approximately 600 registered posters (somewhat less because I found a number of multiple registrations), I count 58 people I've met in the flesh. I may have missed a couple. And some former posters I've met have not yet re-registered to my knowledge, unless they're using different handles. I think I may hold the record.

Fifty-eight or so is very impressive, all right. I've met four, three of whom I saw again tonight. (That's not counting Larry Wayne Fulton.)

I look forward to making that at least five by June and six by September.

One in the flesh, Mone, when I was living in CA., and five by telephone, which I guess means I've met one, of all of you. Just missed meeting a few more, for various scheduling reasons. I almost met GoodSpeak, just before I left CA. and was visiting a friend near where he lives, but it was not to be.
    So, one.

I have my eye on Walto.

Wow, Pete, that's impressive. Come to Alaska and you could add a whopping two more to your list, if you were interested in traveling a couple of thousand miles between Bruce Massey and me. :-) Then you'd have an even 60 persons to your credit, which is unbeatable, in my estimation.

Bruce was the first JC poster I had the pleasure to meet in-person, followed by davide in Hawaii last November. That should change next month when Patti and I travel to the Pacific Northwest, where we hope to connect with graypencil and Lynn Bush, perhaps on the same evening ... at Tula's where Lynn will be performing.

I've had numerous phone conversations with very special JC friends over the years, including Roger Crane, Patricia Dryburgh, Valerie Bishop, Phil Kelly (graypencil), Ron Fundingsland, Don Horvath, SinginSumo, davide, and Lois Gilbert.

Of course, I've enjoyed e-mail connections with many more than I've met or spoken with by phone. There are a couple who are blocked from my e-mail server, too. :-)

Given the distance between me and most of you, I feel blessed to have met any of you, but look forward to each encounter.

I've met Brian Olewnick and Pete Cherches.

    That's enough, right?

Just kidding. Anybody passing through wine country needs to give me a heads up!

They may actually cancel each other out, Square. But they are worth about 8% of total posts.

From Germany it's not so simple, but I met Robin for three times, at Düsseldorf, at Bonn and at Viersen. Would like to meet more.

Just took a quick count and came up with 45. Should add Clay Fink this afternoon and Cap'n Hate later on in the week.

I've met zero, but maybe that'll change - I travel for work to several of the places where some of you cretins live.

And if I went to a show now and then, I'm sure I'd meet Bivins, Troy, HL, and MicahW.

Pete Cherches, Clint Hopson, Mike Schwartz, Steve Schwartz, Marla, Lois, Robin, Goodspeak and Kevin Bresnahan. Enjoyed each and every one of them. As Ron Thorne mentioned, we've had a great email relationship, as I have with James, Jazzooo, ChrisA and Jazzy Mary (by telephone as well). Looking forward to meeting more folks if I get to Monterey this year.

I know I'm forgetting someone or two!!

Absolutely; you have no idea of the concessions I've made to Mrs. Hate to get to come out and play. This is why I usually visit the kids by myself!! So far my only close encounter was with Prof. Bivins (twice!!) but I expect that number to increase significantly between now and July.

I know; I just don't know if she's gonna have something planned that night with the kids or what. btw, she really gets embarassed by my nom-de-cyberplume. She is sure that I'm on some government "watch" list. I tell her that she watched the X Files too much. Freedom of speech, baby!!

[edited after Brian's post] I'll mention it to both of them; although there's always the possibility that they'll detract from any meaningful music discussion with trying to bust my chops. I will stress to my offspring the absolute importance of attending the Unstable Ensemble. I try to be a good father by wanting my kids to have it better than I do.

    Second question,
Who was the first JC'er you ever met and where, excluding posters you already knew outside of the boards?

For me it was Reynolds back in JCS days. We met in Philly to see David Murray's Quartet with John Hicks, Ray Drummond and Andrew Cyrille. Mrs. R came as well.

    All the more reason!

Re: Gordon's question---I think it might have been Gordon! Met him a little while before my first Hang, iirc.

I think the first time I met any JC posters was at a show at MOMA when they were doing early Friday evening jazz. I remember that Josh Heisler, Laurie Tvedt & Hornplayer were there, maybe others. We were JCS posters at the time.

Could you imagine Reynolds going to a show like that these days, now that his tastes have "matured"? Ah, the follies of youth...

Actually, could you imagine Reynolds going to any show these days?
