Fun Duet
I was wondering if anyone could suggest a song that would serve as a good duet for a soprano vocalist and a guitar player. Something that would be rather challenging for the guitarist (me);I need to build up my chops.
My friend sings and we were thinking it would be fun to do something for this open mic thing...anyway, I just need some suggestions.
Thanks

You thinking of something uptempo? You thinking of standards?

Is your friend going to sing lyrics or do a non-lyric Judi Silvano kind of thing?

"Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most" is a beautiful and challenging tune.

You should give some guidance as to what is "challenging" for you and what constitutes "impossible." By that I mean, it's tough to suggest a tune that is challenging for you, yet still playable, without knowing what your skill level is.

Ha yeah of course...sorry
Well at the moment I'm trying to work on my comping (I really haven't been playing jazz long), and so anything, even the most basic thing, that you think would be a good exercise for that would help...I'm really trying not to be too vague here, but I really don't know what does constitute difficult for me. For instance, I can get through 3 choruses of Donna Lee with no problem but then I'll trip up after two of Milestones.
I'd prefer something up tempo and yeah, my friend'll be singing lyrics...
Any suggestion at all is welcome-I can always make it challenging.
Thanks again.

Well without knowing what you're looking for exactly, perhaps I could suggest Dave Frishberg's music, which certainly gives the vocalist something to chew on. There's a good book of his tunes I've used in the past, Listen Here, which has voice, piano & guitar parts.
