    Musical Tributes to Rosa Parks

Gerri Allen's "Life Of A Song" includes “In Appreciation: a Celebration Song”, which is dedicated to Rosa Parks.

Jessica Williams has a tune entitled "For Rosa Parks" (not sure if it appears on any of her albums)

[and I have the uneasy feeling I'm forgetting something obvious...]

    Non-jazz:

There's a gospel album from 1995, "A Tribute to Rosa Parks"

The Neville Brothers "Sister Rosa", from their Yellow Moon album

(Outkast used Mrs. Parks' name in a song that was not a tribute, and was sued by her.)

I'm not gonna challenge your memory, Steve.

My favorite among those cited would be Sister Rosa from the Neville Brothers. The love for her was palpable. Patti and I heard them perform that one in-person, too. Very nice tribute.

Thanks Steve...I was thinking to do a little token of thanks to Rosa Parks on the weekly broadcast. I like the Neville's song a lot, and love the Geri Allen CD.

I had Ms. Allen on the show when the album was released, and missed the dedication for that piece. I appreciate your bringing it up. Thanks
