Reevaluating @ 500k
If you're really interested in accordion, I started a thread in Other Music a few weeks ago.

dirty antipodal jackalope
You would put Buckwheat on a list that doesn't already have Clifton Chenier above him? Cripes.

Three Europeans definitely deserve to figure in any list of accordionists:
Stian Carstensen, Norway
Richard Galliano, France
Pascal Contet, France
If you don't know them, check them out, they're all awesome and have changed a lot of peoples opinion of that instrument.

Astor Piazzolla played the bandoneon, not the accordion.
Your list should include Ted Reichman, IMHO.

Thus far, I've heard:
Vorn (an old solo lp on FMP that is fun, odd, OK),
Blue Goo Park (with J. Leandre, not a great album but good),
Very Centre of Middle...(whatever it's called - a duet with Irene Schweizer, very good)
Night and Day Plays them all - Carl only on tenor

yea, well I'll add a concertina player if I can think of one.
To be honest, I don't know that much about good accordion players. I just thought i would try to beat the folks who do out of the bushes.

Rollhead, may I ask you what qualities or works allowed Andrea Parkins to be n° 1 of your list ? I assume it's not virtuosity.

I put the names in a bag, shook them up, and dropped them on the floor, Andrea Parkins turned out to be on top. Plus, I like her music.
