Thanks for askin'! I just don't know yet. I'd be able to stay for just a night or two, but I guess I should make hotel reservations in the hope that I can go.
I too would love to meet y'all or see y'all again!

Don't freak out, JM. That was accomplished by simply using a little extra software.
Upside-down stuff really does have a transgressive power, doesn't it?

I've been following the updates. Dixon in particular is a cherry for me. Never heard him live before. Got my flight settled today. Accomodation few blocks away on Grand St. all set. Very excited! FIRST DAYS OFF IN OVER A YEAR & A HALF!!
...still waiting on that Cecil show announcement. June 11th, please, in case anyone's listening.

Thanks for the invite, Gary. I would love to meet Bronwyn & see you again, but I arrive on the 10th late at night. I suppose, I could rent a car & sneak away for a day or so... kinda tight, but doable. Let me see how the finances are holding up.

Just want you to plan on keeping Friday from midnight on open for the Jazzcorner/Vision Jam featuring Dennis Gonzalez (who changed his schedule to put this together) and other musical friends. We're just working the wheres and the whos - we have the whys and hows and the whens!

The riff-filled land
That's great news, Lois! My friend Remi Álvarez from México city told me he'd love to play at the JC jam, so that's more people. He plays a mean tenor. I have my tickets and will be in NYC from the 15th through the 19th, he'll probably get there since the 13th.
So is it still too early to ask about festival passes and stuff?

Yes; trust me, Gerardo, I had the same concerns as you do except that I wasn't travelling nearly as far as you are. There is still *plenty* of time.

My plans for the "jam session", Gerardo, are that Yells At Eels with Portuguese saxophonist Rodrigo Amado and Mexican saxophonist Remi Alvarez will play a set to start off the evening (morning actually), after which, other Vision musicians will be invited onstage for the jam portion of the JC/Vision get-together.
We're just waiting to hear where it'll be held.

The Jazzcorner/Vision Jam will be held on Friday night starting at midnight (place TBA). There will be a a nominal cover charge to pay for the musicians (TBD). Dennis changed his whole East Coast schedule to be able to lead the jam on Friday. Does that rock or what!!!
The best is yet to come

That's right. I already have my plane tickets and will stay in NYC for one night, on the 3rd (before traveling to South America to see my girlfriend), then I come back to NYC and spend there 4 nights, from the 15th to the 19th, Vision-time.
Any recommendations on hostels (preferably close to the Orensanz)?
Are you going as well? I can probably smuggle a bottle of tequila Cazadores for you...

Sweetness!!
I may just have to come now!
Eh, I'm looking into it. A lot of it now rides on this irritating on again/off again Boston trip that Kelly is supposed to take this year.
That, and I'm just kind of keeping a look out on this thread to see how many friendly faces will be there. Glad to see yours will be one of them. I'd love to meet Rootz, (Ollie), RBS, and Jazzy Mary also. And Abbey and Mr. B.

Yeah, it's a fine place to stay, relatively cheap (no tax). and in a great location. If anyone is considering it, get the least expensive room. The bathroom and shower are right outside your door and you only share it with another room or two. Never a wait. Of course my place of choice would be the SoHO Grand. I'll take donations.

Gerardo, if you're looking for super cheap, some folks have used The White House Hotel on Bowery, near Downtown Music, and lived to tell about it.

I've heard that Leo House, located at 332 West 23rd Street in Chelsea, can be alright. My girlfriend's 90 year old grandmother stayed there a couple years back, so it can't be too rough. I couldn't find a web site, but they're at 212-929-1010. Word is you'd need to book ahead, as they fill up fast.
