I saw Ornette's Quartet at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor recently and it was a similar problem. Huge stage in a fairly large concert hall. It was very great to see Ornette but it's hard to really get the impact of the music in such a venue. Is it the same quartet that he's been working with? I'd probably go if it were a different project (not that the quartet didn;t sound good).

The first shot was fired tonight: I mentioned going to visit Hatette #1 during Vizz and wasn't met with a problematic response. The probability just rose above 50%

there's a good show at Tonic in the midst of this also, on the 14th, Tetuzi Akiyama solo and in duo with Loren Connors, I'll definitely be at that one.

Crap, that sounds very nice but I arrive to NYC on Thursday the 15th.

Do they only play on the 14th?

I think Tetuzi has a Brooklyn show also, not sure if that's before or after.

Chingada madre...Arguably my favorite jazz guitar player, Tisziji Muņoz, is playing in one of his rare NYC appearances at Tonic on June 2nd, for the Downtown Music Gallery 15th anniversary show. I arrive to NYC for one night on June 3rd, so I'll have to miss it.

I'll bring a *case* of tequila to anyone who goes and tapes/films that show!!

Bruce Lee Gallanter, owner of the Downtown Music gallery always tapes the shows, usually on digital disc, but he also asks one of his pals to videotape a lot of the shows...offer him the case of Ta-Killa!

Ah, I remember the satisfied look on your face after that one....

Trust me, you wouldn't enjoy Wachsmann (a violinist and sometime electronicist); fwiw, neither do I.

The Vandermark/Lytton 2 cd release is a very painful experience; I think I could only make it through one listen. I'm counting on Wachsmann (whom I like better than Ollie does) to raise things up to at least the "bearable" level.

And you plan on attending in the hope that it will be "bearable"?

I'd rather watch test patterns on TV.

Steve is remaining cheerful and optimistic! If he gets too ornery and pained, I'll sneak up from behind and tickle him. Or buy him a pint. Hey, I'm happy to see that noone on the Vision schedule is getting trashed yet. Must be all this springtime warmth and sunshine!

I plan on attending because in this godforsaken sub-backwater of improv the choices are limited to "See these guys" or "See nothing".

Certainly. "A Man who loved and supported the music so, he endured one of his worst musical experiences on a fine night at Tonic in 2005 just to be there and ensure the success of the troubled venue." Shall I mention your love of test patterns?
