Kenny Burrell - Ellington is Forever (1975 Fantasy release)

I finally listened to the whole thing. (4 sides of an LP is what I have). It is wonderful. One of Kenny's shining hours and great work also by Thad Jones, Snooky Young, Mel Lewis (percussion!), Ernie Andrews, et. al. The ensembles are beautifully underplayed also. A total labor of love.

I don't know if this ever made it to CD.

The set was reissued on cd several years ago. Check out the Fantasy/Concord catalog. They have been having a pretty good sale.

There's a Kenny Burrell/Ellington II that's not nearly as good as the one in discussion, but has it's moments.

Oh yeah, these two have been on CD for quite some time--each CD really jam-packed.

I think I actually prefer the second one a bit better. The first one seemed to get bogged down a couple of times in long jams.

"In a Sentimental Mood" (Vol. 2) gets a beautiful reading.

I really enjoy Kenny's brief solo leadoff numbers: "Jump for Joy" and "Azure."
