On second listen, I'd say the creepy little kid's voice makes Spinal Meningitis the most disturbing track on the disc, though the chorus is catchy.

I'd pick "A Tear For Eddie" as an underrated track. It's not typical for Ween, but it shows that they're good enough musicians to write and perform a pure instrumental that's affecting.

"Joppa Road" shows they have the ability to make a straight pop tune when they feel like it. That would make a very misleading single!

"Buenas Tardes Amigo" reminds me of "Bad Blood", the Bonzo Dog Band's spaghetti western revenge tune. Ween follows in the tradition of great comic-rockers like the Bonzos, 10cc, and Godley and Creme in their ability to capture the essence of diverse musical styles and warp them into their own twisted vision.

Yeah, it's pretty and all, but ultimately it's just a Funkadelic knockoff which isn't as good as the real thing.

And since when is 'disturbing' a negative quality in music? We need more disturbing music!

What other music are you listening to (in 2007)?

This thread should last the rest of the calendar year without going over the 3000+ post mark that Mone says slows the server down.

Nice twofer. I've finally picked up some music by ISB. I've listened to the first one so far and like it.

Oh yes, thanks to Walto and others who recommended these records so highly.

    Gold
    Steely Dan

"Here is the magnificent one, the one and only one, Mr. Steely Dan, whatever!"

Anyone know who gave the rambling, semi-incoherent intro to "Bodhisattva(Live)"? Sounds like some local wino they ran into outside a restaurant before the gig.

Was searching the iTunes Music Store for songs named "Hannah" for a CD I'm burning for my oldest daughter, and came across one by a guy named Erik Voeks. Had the kind of bright, fun but edgy pop sound I like from dBs, Ben Folds, and the like, so I searched for the album. I found it wicked cheap on Amazon, and now that I've heard the whole thing, I think this is a guy who unfortunately fell through the cracks. It came out in 1993 and it's the only solo recording he made I think. But if you like this kind of thing, I think this is the kind of thing you'll like.

Rediscovering this album. Lane's "Annie" may be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Great guests, too: Clapton, ex-Crimsos Mel Collins and Box Burrell, Charlie Watts, and Gallagher and Lyle.

    Gentle Giant,

I know that Lois doesn't allow photos of
topless females (unless some artful camouflage is goin' on)

    exposed genitals in anyone

    frontal nudity in anyone
She judges non-photo images on a case-by-case basis. As long as people don't push the limits, chances are that it's okay.

Thanks for being aware of it.

edit - I realize that the Blind Faith cover is a photo, but it's kind of surreal, and it seems okay to me

and she doesn't allow posting an image of the Red Hot Chili Peppers Fight Like A Brave poster either.

Deleting that one was apparently her decision.

No, tits aren't better. I'm simply allowing the Blind Faith album cover, partly because I don't want to bother Lois about making a call on it.

Please, everyone, just don't push the limits and don't make a big deal out of it. Maybe all images are welcome at some other website, but not here. This is nothing new.
