I actually know that one. Porter Wagoner.

(For the first question, I'd have to guess Switzerland. Edit: But having Googled that one, no comment. )

    Porter Wagoner is correct.
Monaco has a larger national orchestra than its national army.

For whom did Paul McCartney pen the song "Martha, My Dear"?
In The United States, there are more radio stations playing which genre of music than any other?

Some tedious drivel the programmers claim is country music.

    C'Mon folks. This is easy:

Other than The Blues Project and the Porter Wagoner National Army Orchestra, what artist from the Swinging 60's (which, as we all know, includes the early 70's) was named after an album he or she or some or all of them played on?

    Hint: Not Senator Everett Dirkson

Which song went from 97th place to number one on Billboard's Hot 100 chart
    in one week?

Name three songs that were recorded by two different musicians or groups which achieved #1 status on the Billboard charts? (Example: The song "Lady Marmalade" — Labelle (1975) and later, Christina Aguilera / Lil Kim / Mya / Pink (2001).

The answer to the second question:

    Number-ones by two different artists
"Go Away Little Girl" — Steve Lawrence (1963) and Donny Osmond (1971)
"The Loco-Motion" — Little Eva (1962) and Grand Funk (1974)
"Please Mr. Postman" — The Marvelettes (1961) and The Carpenters (1975)
"Venus" — Shocking Blue (1970) and Bananarama (1986)
"Lean on Me" — Bill Withers (1972) and Club Nouveau (1987)
"You Keep Me Hangin' On" — The Supremes (1966) and Kim Wilde (1987)
"When a Man Loves a Woman" — Percy Sledge (1966) and Michael Bolton (1991)
    "I'll Be There" — The Jackson 5 (1970) and Mariah Carey (1992)
"Lady Marmalade" — Labelle (1975) and Christina Aguilera / Lil Kim / Mya / Pink (2001)

And the answer to the first question? Bluenoter, shout it loudly.

But . . . but . . . I didn't say I knew the answer! I just Googled it up, though---"My Life Would Suck Without You" by Kelly Clarkson, in January 2009.

OK. Time to reveal the other answer to the question "What late 60's and or early 70's artist was named after an album that he/she/they/some of them appeared on?"

    Mountain.

Mountain was the name of Leslie West's solo album before it was the name of the Power Trio.

I Googled up the answers; if you want me to reveal them, let me know. ("Inspired by," yes, but FWIW, I didn't find support for the "quotes freely from" part.)

The lyrics of the song's chorus are taken directly from the story.

    BIG HINT: Leiber-Stoller

If that's all there is my friends, then let's keep dancing
Let's break out the booze and have a ball
    If that's all there is

Wikipedia >>The song was inspired by the story "Disillusionment" by Thomas Mann, written in 1896. The narrator in Mann's story tells the same stories of when he was a child. (A dramatic adaptation was recorded by Erik Bauserfeld and Bernard Mayes and broadcast on KPFA in 1964.)

One difference between the story and the song is that the narrator in Mann's story finally has a sensation to feel free when he sees the sea for the first time and laments for a sea without a horizon. Most of the lyrics of the chorus are actually spoken in the story.<<

from the notes to the Starbucks Peggy Lee comp lent to me by a dancer yesterday: Dietrich and Streisand passed on the song, but Peggy Lee was immediately very enthusiastic. Arrangements by a then unknown young arranger named Randy Newman.

It's a terrible song, but Dietrich would have been better. Streisand wouldn't be better for anything.

I used to think it was a terrible song. Now I think it's a great mini-opera, like Leiber & Stoller's Little Egypt or Down In Mexico.

I like Peggy Lee a lot more than Pete, and I'm sure her version is as least as good as anything Dietrich would have done.

Why didn't Bluenoter sound her judge's buzzer about an "Is that All There Is" question being on the Rock and R&B trivia thread?

If there ever was a song that was neither Rock nor R&B, it's either "Is that All There Is" or "the Bilbao Song." (I could picture Dietrich singing either)

No, I love Peggy Lee (e.g. the Basin Street East album), just not that song.

As for Steve tl's question, the fact that it's Lieber & Stoller qualifies it for this thread.

So says Wikipedia, but if you want to, have a look at this page about the song, starting with the section headed "Addendum (May 19, 1997)."

    It crossed my mind, but

---the song was written by the legendary rock songwriting team Leiber & Stoller (as Pete said, I see)

---it's been covered by assorted rock, pop, and R&B artists (among others)

---Peggy Lee's recording of it won her the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
