Yep, Space Trucking is an extended 20 minute jam on MIJ. It's also on Machine Head in a much truncated and less exciting version. Godawful lyrics for Spacetrucking and many DP songs but boy could those guys jam!

Today, I'm giving a last chance audition for a 1992 Clannad album (Anam) I'm thinking of getting rid of; as well as planning to enjoy A Part, and Yet Apart by Bill Bruford's Earthworks; If Summer Had Its Ghosts, by Bill Bruford, Ralph Towner, and Eddie Gomez; and Al Kooper's finest solo album:

Bird Lives!

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello," she said
"You look like the silent type."
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream
It is not dying, it is not dying
Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void
It is shining, it is shining
Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being
Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing
And ignorance and hate mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing
But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not leaving, it is not leaving
So play the game "Existence" to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning

Middle Man

"I Love Air Conditioning," with Roswell Rudd on trombone, may come as close as any song in capturing my philosophy of life:
And when I’m tired
And I’m so confused
Air conditioning
I will use

Worth purchasing for Al Anderson's incandescent version of Charles Wright's "Let's Make Love," a concert stalwart during his final few years in the band.

The Bluegrass
Been listening to Corrupted (all three; I like them each progressively more, with El Mundo Frio being epic, dude) and an actual tape compilation from my man Blivins "Heavy ... Doom." Betcherass.

Sal, I was hoping the comp would be Gary's gateway drug into the heavy. So I put some "proper" doom on (Esoteric, Boris' "Dronevil 2"), some in between stuff (Jesu, Neurosis, Isis, Pelican), and some straight up metal (Mastodon). That's all I can remember right now. Shoulda put some YOB on.

Bird Lives!

You look good in blue
It matches your skin, your eyes dripping with pain
If it's alright with you
I could give you some head and shoulders to lie on
Yes, I could give you some head and shoulders to lie on

ATOM HEART MOTHER
The silver sound from a time so strange
Sing to me, sing to me
When that fat old sun in the sky is falling

De harder dey come...

Pilgrimage
Wishbone Ash

David Johansen & the Harry Smiths
David Johansen & the Harry Smiths
I like this better than his Buster Poindexter phase, though it was much more commercially successful for him. Joey Baron and Kermit Driscoll provide solid rhythmic backing, though their playing here is much more conventional than with Bill Frisell.

nice, all great bands. the new mastodon record is going to blow doors off of a lot of shit.
boris is great. electric wizard would be a good step from there. are you into institute at all? (the "experimental" metal band, not the crap with the guy from bush) i've been listening to them, pig destroyer, and early man a lot lately. three completely different facets of metal but all great.
listening to pelican as we speak.
so far today:
yeah yeah yeahs - show your bones (really good)
morrisey - you are the quarry
the smiths - the queen is dead

Four or five cool tracks. "Hit Or Miss" and "Stop The Pusher" are my favorites. It's the only Bo Diddley I have, sounds like I need to investigate his earlier stuff!

Sal, I can't wait for the new Mastodon. Summer, right? Boris is so great and so diverse (I think I have almost everything except for "Heavy Rocks") and I dig what Electric Wizard I've heard.
Never heard of Institute but will definitely check them out, as we seem to have pretty similar tastes. For example, just last night after my wife went to sleep I was rocking "Prowler in the Yard" while watching some NBA.
