For the Preacher! One of the greatest things I've ever seen!
That drummer is outtasight! Plus, Captain Beefheart is quite a chameleon over these clips. Just compare him to his erstwhile soul-brother Zapp.

Q: 'How do you start free improvising?'
A: 'Well I usually start on D as a matter of fact'
"I wandered alone in the desert and cried "Oh Lord! Oh Lord! What hast thou done, lately?"
"Thought is not a saffron-robed monk pissing in the snow"
"Bitterness slowly crept into the marriage and by the time Lovborg was six years old his parents exchanged gunfire daily"
TBH I've never seen anything quite like it. He had a great album on the Windham Hill label called Willow, which is a classic of acoustic guitar. Have never been able to find it again - we have a vinyl copy mouldering in the attic and no record player!
What do you make of Kolbe & Illenberger? They're quite an experience on record - a symphony of sound. Flieger or Waves are great places to start. From Flieger the track 'Roekchen' is one of the most exhilarating pieces of music I've heard. They also do a great version of Birdland on that album.

It's a Warr guitar/bass played by Colin Marsten. 6 bass strings, 6 guitar strings. It's weird because I'm really not much into extreme Metal or Avant Garde stuff but somehow these guys just kill me. I'm hoping they start playing out again soon.

Their range is extraordinary - I'm sure I heard Slint and Captain Beefheart in there, along with a ton of other stuff!
Lucky you that you get to see these guys play when they come to town.

I don't know if you're a Squarepusher (aka Tom Jenkinson) fan?...but this was from his most recent performance. Couldn't get back in time....oldest sister went.
It's the best quality I could find. It's hard to tell but he's playing the bass and doing all the rest with computers, a theremin and foot pedals.
His new stuff appears to going back a beat and into dubstep.

I am indeed Blue Train - thanks for the thought! He is a monster bass player. This looks like good stuff indeed.
I remember being startled and somewhat amused when my piano instructor (during a very brief stint in Leeds College of Music) told me he played the opening track of Hard Normal Daddy with his fusion group. He was gobsmacked and somewhat dubious when I told him it was actually just one fellow playing throughout.
