    Bill--

    Thanks!

    Pete--

Thanks for nothin'. I'm back to the font with fewer, bigger characters now.

Since the Marion Brown and the Sam Rivers have already been nominated, would you like to nominate a different one [edit: or more]?

    Folks--

The new thread title says it all--
POLL NOMINATIONS - The ECM albums you MOST want "in print" on CD in your country

    [that currently aren't]

Please list as many albums as you want!

We'll figure out the details of the poll later. Thanks!

OK, a few more for consideration:

    ECM 1058 - Ecstasy w/ Steve Kuhn (1974 solo)
ECM 1094 - Motility w/ Steve Kuhn, Steve Slagle, Harvey Swartz & Michael Smith (1977)
ECM 1099 - Azimuth w/ John Taylor, Norma Winstone & Kenny Wheeler (1977)

Hey folks, this is your opportunity - often we complain not having management listen - and here's someone from management (Steve Lake) who is willing to listen.

Bluenoter has been so kind to do all the work of compiling the poll(s) - but she needs your input. Go for it...

Thanks for giving this opportunity to voice our opinion.

This would be my top wishlist that are not out on CD to my knowledge:

    1) Dave Liebman - Lookout Farm
    2) Jack DeJohnette - Untitled (and/or New Rags)
    3) John Abercrombie - M (and/or Quartet)
    4) Arild Andersen - Clouds in My Head (or perhaps some sort of Arild box set like the Azimuth)
    5) Everyman Band - s/t

And from JAPO, I'd love to see the rest of the Om catalog reissued someday, though that appears unlikely.

As far as items that are/were in print but nearly impossible to find in the USA: Bobo Stenson - Underwear, Edward Vesala - Nan Madol, & Michael Mantler - Hapless Child.

    Thanks!

    My picks:

Towner / Abercrombie - Five Years Later
    Bobo Stenson - Underwear
    Sam Rivers - Contrasts
    John Abercrombie - M
Jack DeJohnette - New Rags and/or Untitled

There's a couple of Enrico Rava's from the late 70's that I've never actually heard (Ah and Opening Night). If they're on a par with his other ECM work, I'd certainly like to see those in print too.

    And . . .

ECM 1124 - Non-Fiction w/ Steve Kuhn, Steve Slagle, Harvey Swartz & Bob Moses (1978)
ECM 1127 - Green Shading Into Blue w/ Arild Andersen Quartet (1978)
ECM 1142 - Elm w/ Richard Bierach, George Mraz & Jack DeJohnette (1979)

Today is Shiela jordan's 79th birthday.....I got to meet her in January at the IAJE meet where she received heaps of well deserved praise!

I played from her 1980 LP Steve Kuhn/Sheila Jordan Band "Playground" [on the radio this morning]
    -Harvie Swartz [b]
    -Bob Moses [dr]

If it's not in circulation getting it out for Ms. Jordan's 80th would be cool!!

Edit: The poll also includes albums nominated in posts # 44 - 61.

I had to patch this together, but you get the idea--

    POLL NOMINATIONS from Posts # 1 - 43

    (Alphabetized by Title)

Not included: Keith Jarrett -- Standards in Norway. I noticed that it's "in print" on CD in the United States (the nominator's country) and available right away at "normal" prices.

Also, a couple of posters expressed "general" wishes but didn't nominate specific albums. I need to have specific albums named, please.

Edit: Sorry that the last few albums are so blurry! It's only a temporary list, and I don't want to fool with the image any more.

    Wow! Thanks, Rita. Good work.

I haven't heard all of the albums on this list, but out of the ones I'm familiar with I'd add the following to my personal list of high priority reissues:

    Sam Rivers - Contrasts
Enrico Rava Quartet - Opening Night
Steve Kuhn/Sheila Jordan Band - Playground
Bengt Berger - Bitter Funeral Beer
    Paul Bley - Ballads
    Kenny Wheeler - Around 6

Thanks, Bill! I hope that you'll also vote for those albums (if you still want to) in the eventual poll.

I also hope that all of the earlier posters in this thread saw this post (or the edit of #1). The thread title has changed, and the request that each poster nominate only one album has been withdrawn.

So if you want to nominate any albums that haven't been nominated yet (see
the chart), please do! (Edit: I'll add Playground in the next batch.)

Rita-- i think Azimuth's individual releases (Azimuth/The Touchstones/Depart) has been repackaged into a single 3-cd box set so i doubt if they would re-issue it again separately. you can probably delete 1099, 1163 and 1130 and just retain 1546.

i have the individual albums on vinyls and missed the box set when it first came out.

    thanks!

Good catch, Rita. I'd nominated "Standards In Norway" based on people telling me they hadn't known about it until they'd heard it at my place, or heard me refer to it. The trio being so popular, I'd just assumed it was o.o.p.

    Rene--

Thanks! I thought about omitting the three individual albums (and retaining just the 3-CD box), but I don't know how the posters who nominated them would feel about that. I hope they read this, because I may not get around to PMing them.

    Gary--

Sure. I'm glad that the Jarrett is in print!

These aren't "worst cases"; they're available on CD from ECM et al. But I'd sure like to be able to order them from an online store (not a third-party seller) in the United States that

    --stocks them and
--doesn't price them at $28 or more (apiece) plus the shipping charge.

ECM 1154   Old and New Dreams -- Old and New Dreams
ECM 1205   Old and New Dreams -- Playing

Perhaps you can, bluenoter! At least, they say they have it in stock.

    Old and New Dreams

There's also a new CD copy of Playing on eBay which currently has one bid at $12.00.

Thanks, Ron! I might try to order Old and New Dreams from Tower.com and see what happens! (It's only a "might" because I don't trust Tower.com very much.)

As for that eBay auction for Playing, though,
    Item location: Groovy Bangkok, Thailand
That ain't "my country." Even if it were, though, I don't think that the sporadic pickin's on eBay should count for the purposes of this thread.

(That particular auction has three more days to go. I'll be interested in seeing what the selling price turns out to be!)

Tower Records online has never been problematic for me, but that's just me. The fact that their brick-and-mortar stores went away has no bearing on their online presence, really.

I wasn't tossing out the eBay auction for "the purposes of this thread", per se. It was, however, an indication that copies of Playing do exist out there. And, if this seller hadn't exhibited the Positive Feedback shown I wouldn't have bothered at all. I also noted the end date of the auction and the fact that there was no Buy It Now option. If I were that seller, I wouldn't have offered that either. At least, not for 12 bucks. I also noted that the shipping charge is not outrageous.

    Ron--

Thanks. Well, shoot, then; I probably will try to order Old and New Dreams from Tower.com.

I realized that the "Buy It Now" option, if any, disappears if an eBay item gets at least one bid (that is, if bids are being allowed). So maybe that auction for Playing had a "Buy It Now" option when it began.

In terms of my personal quest, I never bid on or buy eBay items that aren't located in the United States. I personally just don't want to, no matter how well that's worked out for others. Thank you, though!

(Edit: In my personal quest for the two O&ND albums on ECM,
I ran into some snags, which I described to Ron privately.)

Thanks, Randy. When I do an update, I'll add any albums that aren't already on this chart:

    POLL NOMINATIONS from Posts # 1 - 43

Any more nominations, folks? I'm hoping that we can take the poll before people get too busy with the holidays.

Edit: The poll also includes albums nominated in posts # 44 - 61.

    I've long carried a torch for -

    Jack DeJohnette - Inflation Blues
Barre Phillips - Call Me When You Get There

These two gems hail from the early 80s, an era that seems to have slipped under the reissue radar by & large (Dewey's date excepted)

The nominations in this thread were entered in a poll,
    which is now closed.

Here's a link to the thread:

Poll: What ECM albums do you MOST want "in print" on CD in your country?
