School canceled, working from home in my pajama bottoms on my bed, using a breakfast in bed-type tray table on which to type onto my MacBook Pro. Door is closed, Waterboys playing on iTunes. All is well.
Uh oh, wifey wants me to get busy with the Toro. Gotta go.

There's just too many silly comments that could be made here, but I hope by Toro you are referring to a make of snowblower, and not a pet name for a body part...
Keeps your business on the ground
It's coming down
Slow day for the teacher
And her wheels are spinning now
On account of winter, Mrs. Braintree
All the roads are closed
And the stores are loot for vagabonds
It's coming down
Go home!
It's coming down
Snow lays on the chainfields
There's a blessing on the ground
It's coming down
If your lanes are crammed with children
There's a blessing on your town
On a lucky Monday, Mrs. Braintree
All your lanes are waxen silver
And the stores are loot for vagabonds
It's coming down
Go home! Go home and take a snow day, Mrs. Braintree!
Mrs. Braintree, you're a chilly northern woman
Go home from yonder bus stop
Because there's a blessing on the ground
Mrs. Braintree, it is written
When the snows come over Dixie
All the roads are closed and the stores are loot for vagabonds.
It's coming down
Snow lays on the chainfields
There's a blessing on the ground
It's coming down
If your road's patrolled by children
There's no order to be found
On account of winter, Mrs. Braintree
All the roads are closed
And the stores are loot for vagabonds
It's coming down
Go home!
Sometimes I think that NYC area weather people suffer from a deep ignorance of some pretty basic science. All weekend long forecasts for last night around here were for "3 to 6 inches of snow, with temperatures in the upper 30s." Ummm...
Snowin' like crazy here in the State o'Maine! Glad I drove up yesterday instead of today. We're getting something like 2 inches per hour. And the ski resorts rejoice!
Damn. No snow day, here. It's just snowing with heavy cloud cover. We just showed the house to a prospective buyer, dammit. None of the view is visible.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
In this case, though, yes, it refers to my snowblower.
We got nothing but cold rain anda little slush here on the Cape. I was hoping for three or four inches so I could break out the XC skis.

Our dysfunctional little family had a hell of a time today. Outside of lunch and plowing, I worked until about 3:30; during that time, the ladies played in the snow and kept out of my hair. Then I came down and wifey decided it would be a kick to whip up a chocolate fondue. So I made a fire, poured a couple glasses of zinfandel port and we sipped and dipped while listening to Bach, Dinah Washington, and Matthias Lupri.

Didn't suck.
I didn't even know that Bach, Dinah Washington and Matthias Lupri recorded together. Sounds wonderful.
Stayed home today as my abode near the Potomac is getting buried under about four inches so far. Huge flakes. Beautiful for snowballs. I pegged Fulgencia Maeve Myfanwy right in the kisser. By mistake, of course. Here is she and Gungadar.
Serious B&D (blowin', driftin') right now. Our north side of town is getting a casual 4 to 5 inches
drifting to about two feet in the right places (like the end of my driveway).

Nothin' here. Rain tomorrow, maybe some snow tomorrow night.

South shore of Mass getting a rain/snow mix that will most definitely be turning to rain overnight. Seems as though the folks west and north of us get the brunt of these storms. Then again, we have had to get the snow blower and shovels out this year, too! We're fairly near the ocean, so I think that typically means less severe storms.
Snowing here. Ironically, two people who were supposed to do some work for us today called in that they're not coming because it's snowing. I have to drive more than 15 miles in two different directions to get stuff I need at the barn. Not impressed with the excusemaking, in other words. So, it's snowing. In VT, in January. Thanks?

We're supposed to get 3" of snow. WTF? I had zip for problems on my way to work.
Snow is useless. My wife says, "But it's pretty". Yeah, for about an hour, then it's nothing but a pain in the ass. Starting this year I refuse to shovel snow. If I can, I'll hire somebody to plow the driveway. If I'm unable to get somebody to plow I'll just back out of the garage as fast as I can just to make it to the street. If I get stuck in the driveway I'll lock the car and go back into the house and blow off work. I'm not gonna risk a heart attack for some shit that's going to eventually melt anyway.

I said the same, Roots. People seem to use snow as an excuse now like kids in school. "Do we *have* to go to school today?" My experience with what's now dozens of different people leads me to wonder whatever became of Vermonters' work ethic, which used to be extreme. No one seems to want to work even a full month of 40s anymore.

Jimmy -- I had to admit to myself that my snow shoveling days are over, a couple years back. There's something about that particular activity and motion that puts my lower back into spasm. Might take an hour, might take five minutes, there's no telling. It just will. So I either do without or if there's a young back about, I pay someone if I have to. Occasionally a friend will help me out if they happen to come around when shoveling's needed.
We lost all of our snow last week. There's not much on the ground, now.

There are still little pockets of old New England out there, Gary. Seems it's usually found in places beyond the reach of cable television.
I returned from Maine a day earlier than desired to try and outrun the coastal storm. Prob'bly a smaht decision. I took my time but I got out of Dodge before Friday morning (stopped at LLBean on a whim, bought stuff; then cruised).
I did, in fact, hit snow of various kinds from the Berkshires all the way through Utica. Sane drivin' and coffee got me through, but I was tense. Fortunately, the last 2 hours were under dry skies. I did the last weary stretch to "Everything Must Go" by Steely Dan. It ended just as soon as I got to my street. Yay!
Snow is fine as long as it isn't in the road, IMO.
That's an astute observation about the tv, Cookie. I think it has also to do with the not-very-much that's expected of young people anymore (expected as in their being obliged to work as they used to be on farms or if they lived under my father's roof). There's also the school experience. Here, there's never a single month of the school year without at least one three-day weekend, plus the several "breaks" for this or that. There's also, often, here, when it comes to manual work, the residual effects of long-term welfare etc., which in the long run didn't do anyone any favors, I've come to agree. Many of the people we've had working for us come out of that experience, from having grown up with a parent in that system. Which system no longer exists in Vermont by comparison with the past.

During the Monday storm, my father (almost typed that "fathah" because my accent's in my head).drove my stepmother nearly 40 miles to go to her job as a caregiver. On the way back, he stopped at an open store and bought me a sandwich. BTW: they must have gotten up around 5 AM to do this.
My mother's husband gets up every morning at 2 AM to haul logs over some harrowing terrain. He gets home around 4 and is in bed by 7PM. (!!)
Myformer teacher gets up at 4 AM so that he can be bright-eyed and on time for his classes at his school (also probably 30, 40 miles away).
These folks get up early and work hard and smart. But again, they came up in a different time. I'll admit to being much softer which is one reason I live in town and on the bohemian clock.
Oh, I'm soft compared to those oldtime Yankees, too, believe it. There are still a few around. Just yesterday at the store I saw an old farmer whose back is permanently stooped but his hands alone told me he could work me to death if he wanted to.
The older I get, the more respect I have for how hard my parents worked, raising four kids, and how tired they must've been. Neither of them ever took a day off that wasn't official vacation time. "Calling in" wasn't even in their vocabulary.
