This is the sort of innocent blunder that me and my equally grizzled and cynical hacks in the journalistic world have noted as increasing dramatically among newer generations of reporters.
EG: Using sort where sought was meant.
EG: The real estate writer who used the phrase "tricks and mortar" three times in the same story.

I didn't mean to bash Krall, she's a legitimate jazz artist, albeit with tendencies towards popularizing her music. However, I doubt she's high on the list of most folks who frequent here, whose tastes tend to run towards the cutting edge.
Feigned enthusiasm is condescending, though Janey may be a sincere fan for all we know. But nobody here appreciates transparent shilling.

Yeah, you're right about that, Pete. If she had just said "I'm being paid to promote this artist, here's a link to buy her new release", it would have been less annoying.

I've been quite fond of Diana for a while - she was my introduction to jazz, and I always enjoy seeing her live - but this latest album is a snooze.
I think her Girl in the Other Room record was fabulous, as were the earlier ones where she actually played piano.
I'll occasionally see something like this on Youtube:
Night Train: Diana Krall
and be reminded of why I'm a fan - but it's getting harder and harder to defend her... I'll still go see the show if/when she comes to town - but I don't think I'll be buying any more albums if she keeps moving in this direction.

The moldiest of all figs
I enjoy Krall's earlier stuff but lately she's turned into a real snoozer.
Bright moments - right now!

She released the album a couple days ago (march 31). I love her voice and the piano solos in the songs. The tracks on her album can be reviewed here http://www.iheartmusic.com/cc-common...=dianakrall_sa
happy listening =)

although she is a very fine pianist her vocals leave alot to be desired. what if she wasn't white and blonde would she be as popular? cassandra wilson, nneena freelon, abbey lincoln, pyeng threadgill are much more to my liking. diana krall is jazz for those who really don't like jazz.

An amusing possibility on these *shill drop-ins* is that IF there were someone who was delighted/thrilled/knocked out by what they were selling and made comments and had questions, what is most likely is that there would be no response.

I actually just hung up with a marketing director at Verve/Universal and read him the shill and some of the comments. I told him it would be much more effective, if their interns just came straight out and said I work for the label and want you to know about the new Krall album, etc. We had a good laugh and he's bringing it up at their marketing meeting tomorrow.
