Converting FLAC to MP3
If you're looking to convert FLAC files straight to MP3 without going through a conversion to CD, here's a guide I found. I've decided from now on that I'll be converting any shows I download from dimeadozen to MP3 to save space and load on my portable player. Lossless be damned (in which case, I guess this doesn't belong in the Audiophiles forum).

Thanks, Pete. A bit of a pain to set up, but that looks like a good one-step process once it's up and running. I've used a two-step process: convert FLAC to WAV using FLAC Frontend, then convert WAV to MP3 using a converter called mkw. Very simple, but it can take a little time. If I ever get back to downloading FLAC shows I'll try this.

I've converted two today. Once you've got the software and LAME.exe set up it's pretty simple, and your settings are saved for the next conversion.

I've always used MKW audio compression tool to convert WAV files to mp3, after converting FLACs to WAV. That way I have "everything" somewhere.

For any Mac users out there, Switch converts directly from FLAC to mp3, and it's a free download.

2 blocks from the world
There are several freeware programs to do this, aren't there? Efficient WMA Converter, which a friend of mine hipped me to, has worked reasonably well for me.

I'd recommend to try one of my favorite converters, Audio Converter Studio. Can convert many audio files at once and works with multiple formats. It helped me a lot of times, think would be useful for you.

I'm not going to look at the audio studio site, but I'll bet most of its functions are available in various freeware. And the so-called happy customer is clearly a shill. And $25 bucks is not that cheap for downloadable software. And my free CD-EX software connects to CDDB, as do most programs.
If it's shareware, is the $25 a suggested donation, but not required? If you have to buy it it's not "shareware."

Coralina may indeed be a shill, but I read a number of reviews which were very favorable for this software, that's all. I've removed my post so as not to be considered as one who's knowingly contributing false or misleading information.
Carry on.

The way Mr. C. originally posted was the best at the time.
Now, it's not even a contest. It doesn't matter if you want to rip or convert or convert between multiple lossy or lossless.

Once you set up the options it's really impossible to screw it up. Keep in mind the default is a ripper and the bitrate is 192 for conversions....but it's simple to change.

For those that don't want to deal with software. This an online one, but you're going to have to upload the file and depending on your speed it could take a while.

I now use Trader's Little Helper for everything. It seems to be the converter of choice for the online trading community and it's easy to use.
