Chris Botti "In Boston" - a little something for everyone
I'm a huge fan of Chris Botti, and wanted to share the great news that he released an album, "In Boston"!!! if you don't know already, the album is a collective work of tracks involving the talents of famous artists (Sting, Yo-Yo Ma, Dominic Miller...and more!) Botti is an awesome trumpet player and the album provides a little something for everyone - serious jazz, popera, classical music, American songbook, and rock. not bad! i listened to all of them at the place I found out about the album --> http://www.iheartmusic.com/cc-common...=chrisbotti_sa
I recommend downloading "Seven Days" and "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You".
Hope at least someone's interested as much as I am!! =) Thanks for reading

It's the new darling of the PBS fund raisers.
Several portions of the concert are being shown by PBS stations who are hawking the CD's & DVD's as sign-up prizes....even Q&A with Botti during the breaks on the one I watched parts of, which was mostly a snooze fest, at least to me.
I do understand it's appeal though, as I have a number of friends and acquaintances who like Botti a lot, as he satisfies some kind of acceptance of jazz in thier lives, without any threat that it might be 'too intense.'

I'm the face.
He actually acquits himself pretty well in these collaborations with Bill Bruford, Tony Levin, and David Torn, but they're definitely an anomaly in his catalog.

I need to chime in here. Actually Chris is a really good trumpet player. He chose to record and perform in a very commercial fashion. But having heard him straight ahead and having players like Renee Rosnes work with him, IMO he's not a sleepwalker, although his recorded output would state to the contrary

You know, Lois, I won't disagree, but there are SO MANY REALLY good trumpet players out there now making music, who are doing exciting things (imho) that to me Botti is irrelevant. I realize he sells a lot of music, but so does Kenny G, and I don't buy his stuff, either.

I'm not disagreeing, and the band he worked with with Renee was back in the day!

Reevaluating @ 500k
IMO, he might as well be a matinee idol making money than just another pretty good trumpet player working for peanuts.

I dig Botti. Very impressive trumpeter with considerable talent. I don't listen to him now, however, as he's chosen to chase the bucks.

Reminds me of an interview with Bill Champlin a few years back. Commenting on criticisms from people who would prefer he do his "own" thing with the Sons Of Champlin instead of perpetuating a long tenure with Chicago, he said something like: "They obviously haven't had to put two kids through college."
Doesn't mean I have to listen to either of them, of course. Though I dig Bill a bunch ...

What the heck is "popera"
Is that the stuff that my wife made me put on our trout a few days ago?
