So do I.
But, if you really want to get your blood pressure up, try to find the series that Janice Dickenson did. I think it was called "Janice Dickenson's Modelling Agency."
I found myself wanting to yell at the television. YIKES! What a bunch of self-centred narcissists!!
However, they are models and so I guess that explains it.
The most depressing thing, at least for me, was that they don't sound the way they look. Both the women and the men are gorgeous. But, most could use a remedial English course and a voice coach.
OR, they could just stand still, looking beautiful, pretending they are deaf-mutes.

Thanks, Lenny. Although I enjoyed both seasons, that one was off my radar!

I agree about The Shield being great escapism; however, I think they have a little more in common than just being about cops, unless by being about cops you include politics, gangs, iad, corruption, ci’s, “wires” and other surveillance, etc. The Shield is surely more narrowly focused though on tales of the same band of dirty cops (as protagonists!). The Wire is more profound for sure and also organized like a textbook in the way it encompassed different views of the street or political processes across seasons.
That said, I think these are the only two shows about cops that I have watched in the past twenty years so that is probably another reason why I associate them closely. Ooops, I watch Dexter too but that’s mostly about being Dexter, who is a very unique forensics specialist.

One of the things I really like about What Not to Wear is that the "real people" they chose are generally NOT narcissistic at all. They are generally kind, selfless people who previously didn't give a damn about their appearance. The show is often heartwarming, for this reason.
I hesitate to tell people I like this show because, if they haven't seen it and think of it as another "reality show," it's easy to assume that's it's about people who have no shame as long as their behavior gives them camera time. I'm not interested in the kind of reality show that highlights what huge jerks some people are. Actually, other than What Not To Wear, I don't ever watch any "reality shows."

I can tell you from personal experience that this gets very boring after a while. Sometimes you just need to open up your mouth and demand a $5 bottle of spring water.

Eye Candy
Watching the premier of the "Life" documentary series. It's the follow up to the great Planet Earth series. Brilliant footage, as expected, and looks incredible in HD. Wishing they could have come up with someone other than Oprah to narrate.

This season is much better than last. Maybe it was the change in network or having it take place in LA rather than NY, but last season sucked.

The moldiest of all figs
We watched the first episode of Justified. Unlike some, what we saw was a very predictable plot with testosterone spraying from the screen. We'll give it one more shot, but I don't hold out much hope.
I doesn't hold a candle to The Shield.
Oh well, we didn't like Deadwood either.

Cower worm folk!
New Southpark series 14 has started folks! Very exciting stuff. Tiger Woods the target this time, with some very funny riffs about how 'inexplicable' sex addiction is. Butters is bemused in a very amusing fashion, and Kenny meets his fate in hilarious yet tragic circumstances. Hurrah!
Q: 'How do you start free improvising?'
A: 'Well I usually start on D as a matter of fact'
"I wandered alone in the desert and cried "Oh Lord! Oh Lord! What hast thou done, lately?"
"Thought is not a saffron-robed monk pissing in the snow"
"Bitterness slowly crept into the marriage and by the time Lovborg was six years old his parents exchanged gunfire daily"

with a twist
I watch Dexter. My favorite aspect of the show is Dexter's inner monologues.
I am enjoying the new one on FX, "Justified". It has my favorite actor from The Shield (Walton Coggins) and dialogue penned by Elmore Leonard, which is perfect for a TV show.
I find myself disagreeing with exactly 50% of Clint's likes and dislikes.

We've seen the first two episodes of The Pacific. Tom Hanks and Stephen Spielberg produced this as a follow up of Band Of Brothers, which, IMHO is one of the best things ever to appear on the tube. It's a quite different in the way the story is presented as was the difference between the European war and the Pacific.
Both episodes have been riveting, emotional, terrifying and even humorous.
It's impossible to completely show what the Marines went through on those little islands but they've done a good job considering all aspects.
Considering that this is the last major war the U.S. actually won, reliving that time and having known a few Marines and flyers I probably will get a lot more our of it than younger folks.

i confess I am not drawn to watch Pacific at all--WW2 has just been the subject of too many movies, mini-series and documentaries--some by the exact same team of producers--for me to get drawn to it. No disrespect for the veterans, but...time to make movies about something else imo. Like crystal meth dealers.
Season two of Breaking Bad--what a cool show.

The season 3 opener was strong, imo, although I don't like that there seems to be some X-files type elements starting to creep in with the 2 twin bald guys, the crawling Mexicans and what appeared to be some sort of shrine.

Re: Pacific. Not watching Spielberg & Hanks do a WWII movie/series 'cause it seems like more of the same, seems to me like not buying the latest release from a favorite artist because he's playing the same kind of music. It ain't like 'Saving Pvt. Ryan' or 'Band of Bros.' are bad pieces of work, on the contrary, they're exceptional! Exploring the human/humane side of War isn't an easy thing to do and these guys do it brilliantly. I'll admit to being a student of the War, my father fought in the Pacific campaign. It's an extraordinary part of our history, but if ain't to your liking it's totally understandable. War is Hell.

Isn't life WONDERFUL !
I loved the 3 seasons of DEXTER. Can't wait for the next, hoping there s a next.
I'm now watchin BIG LOVE.
Find it rather funny. But I wouldn't follow it if there wasn't someone I know that I suspect is living like this: a community sort of living, where children sexual favors are given to the old Guru for more recognition in the community.
Rather anoying.

I can't really be the only one who passes up a new release by a favorite artist because I listen to a bit and say "Yeah, too much like the last one", can I?

Season 2 of Durham County. Although, still oozing with atmosphere, it's taken a rather unbelievable turn. I could just about buy the plot of the first season but this one is much more far fetched. We'll stick with it though.
I like Dexter too and we're just catching up on DVD. Just finished season 1.
However, our favorite current show is Breaking Bad. We've just started Season 2 on DVD.
