People who sang on hits for more than one act
In the car today, I heard Mickey Thomas singing on Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love." He also, of course, was lead vocalist on several hits for Jefferson Starship.
That got me thinking about other artists who sang on hits for multiple acts.
The one who came immediately to mind was Paul Carrack, who went on the charts singing for three different bands: Ace, Squeeze and Mike + the Mechanics.
Who else can you think of who hit multiple times in this way? Please leave out those singers who were in bands and then went solo, or vice versa.

What about backup vocalists. Probably many. Off hand, maybe Bonnie Bramlett? Rita Coolidge? Mary Clayton?

If we were to go that route, you could just list Clydie King, Venetta Fields and Sherlie Matthews and cover a whole lot of hits.
I'm thinking lead singers.

I'm using a relatively loose definition of 'hit'.
If you mean charting on top 40 Casey Kasem radio, then no, probably not. If you allow for the inclusion of college/alternative and what is now called "modern rock" radio (I'm thinking KROQ in LA [which totally sucks now, but was cool back then]), then yes.
Big Audio Dynamite had a pretty big hit in the mid 90s with 'Rush'. I believe Time Zone with Lydon singing had a hit with 'World Destruction'. I'll concede that I wasn't around during the time of PiL and I don't know how well they did within the aforementioned radio format. So I could be wrong about them.
If you mean top 40 and 70s album rock, then yes, my previous post was out of place.

Do Crosby, Nash and Young count?
Does Wings count as "an act"?
Does Derek and the Dominos?
Did "John Barleycorn Must Die" chart?

True for Slash, but Grohl was on backing vocals in Nirvana, and yes your point is noted re the backing vocal caveat, but I couldn't resist.

I'm assuming Paul McCartney is way too obvious, which is why he hasn't been mentioned.

Actually, he'd qualify if the Jeff Beck Group charted, which it didn't.
