    Jazz Biopics

Charlie Parker had his and Lester Young and Gordon and Bud Powell were synthesized in Round Midnight, but I would like to see a proper Sonny Rollins or Thelonious Monk or Bill Evans biopic in the future. Since a Miles Davis biopic is in the works with Don Cheadle, does anyone want to see another biopic on a jazz legend?

Here's a bit of my favorite jazz biopic, about a trumpet player and singer I never liked all that much, until I realized how completely fucked up he was, and what a miracle it was that he did anything at all:

    Let's Get Lost.

I think that would have to be called a documentary...not a biopic. The best stuff in it is the footage of Jack Sheldon talking about Chet....amazing...

There's been an Art Pepper movie in the works for years. I think this has the possibility of transcending the usual biopic banality since it is an interesting story whether or not it's about a famous person.

When Ella Fitzgerald died there were several documentaries on UK TV about her life . I then investigated further to see what was available on DVD and came acress "Something To Love For" a film by Charlotte Zwerin about Ella's life ( or lack of it) . Very moving indeed.
