Never thought I would find myself saying I miss Meg White.
I always thought that Meg was sort of an updated parallel to Moe from The Velvet Underground - primal, ultra simple beats. No frills, no pretensions - and most importantly - no solos!
Btw, great to see you back in action around these parts!

He is indeed pretty awesome! As I mentioned on rollhead's vanity thread, I own an n'gooni, which is a smaller cousin to the mighty kora. I use my fingerstyle skills to get some lovely sounds from it - very hypnotic and soothing.

And to answer your question - no, I have been unexposed to X's music before now. Thanks to recs here I have gotten a hold of their first two albums and will be checking them out once they get to the top of my 'To Listen To' pile.

If you listen to Blunderbuss you will understand what I mean. I honestly don't get his statement about not being able to do this before.

n/p:

Except mine is not the SACD, it's the emusic download and there's a blip between tracks when it's intended to be one continuous piece. Might not be so irritating if it were just broken into 3 or 4 tracks, but it's 51 tracks! So the listening experience is similar to meditating peacefully while having a little leprechaun flick my ear every two minutes.

Excellent. I have it on my saved page at Emusic so I will get it in a few days when my account refreshes.

It's really an extension of Get Behind Me Satan with a moment or two of Elephant.

I thought Get Behind Me Satan was an underrated recording. And Elephant their best.
Sounds like this will be an outstanding album. Thanks for the nudge.

Pretty damn good. Looking forward to the full length album which should be out in the very near future according to Mr. Reznor.

Whilst as a whole I don't rate this album highest of Radiohead's, it does contain some of my favourite tracks of theirs.

It doesn't flow well and it's too long but I agree there are some terrific songs. It's the album I've played the least.

Yep, I totally agree. Speaking of album length, I was disappointed that their latest was so short. I rate King of Limbs very highly indeed, and it was sub industry standard in length. We was robbed!

That's more than a trifle harsh I think. While they didn't scale the heights of BIB and the previous 3 albums which stand as one of the high water marks of heavy rock, they had some awesome riffage after that in For Those About To Rock, Fly On The Wall, Blow Up Your Video, and The Razor's Edge.

There have always been the rumors that Bonn Scott was involved in Back in Black.
Having said that, I agree. It's really the only one with Johnson worth having.

I don't like most of what they have released beginning with this one. There are great songs that still pop-up, but overall I really don't listen to many of the albums from this one on in full.

I haven't heard this, but I haven't like anything of his since he got all mainstream/respectable. Who would have ever though it possible that Trent Reznor would win an Oscar!? haha

Hardly rumours surely? Unless you're referring to the infamous Ouija Board sessions.
Some of the songs had been written with him before he died, and then when Johnson came on board he wrote new lyrics in his inimitable fashion.
For Those About To Rock is a great album - I listen to it a lot. BUYV has some great riff songs on it, as do the other two I mentioned.
I think these albums suffer by comparison with the outstanding stuff that went before - Highway to Hell, Powerage, If You Want Blood You've Got It - and has been tainted by the crap albums Stiff Upper Lip, Ballbreaker, and Black Ice.

Hey now! In Rainbows and King of Limbs are both outstanding efforts. I would view HttT as a curate's egg. But - and this is where we're not seeing eye to eye at all I deem - it is their only 'curate's egg' to date.
So there!

His winning the Oscar freaked me out a bit that's for sure! His acceptance speech more so - he's bulked out, middle aged, a tom cat by the fire, and not the spitting mean lean alleycat of old.
Ghosts has some very nice stuff. The Slip has two of my favourite NIN tunes - Echoplex, and Discipline. Year Zero had some good tunes. With Teeth was a bit weak. The Fragile is a masterpiece, as was it's accompanying remix album - my favourite of all the companion remix albums he seems to bring out with release.
How To Destroy Angels is basically NIN with a chick singer. Pretty enjoyable, but not earth shattering.

No, I think there have always been rumors even from when it first came out. Many don't believe Johnson did much of anything beside singing.

I still don't understand what you mean by 'rumours'. The lyrics are entirely in the Johnson style, particularly evident in their lack of humour - which was always a Bon trademark.
