'Dull' is an absurd term to use regarding the music on those two albums. Just because you don't like the music doesn't make it 'dull'. To take an example - I don't like Jack White's stuff, never moved me. But I don't call it dull, or say 'that's generic retro moves' or something like that, because I can dig that my opinion is subjective.
In sum, be careful of those weighted adjectives there buddyroo!
Q: 'How do you start free improvising?'
A: 'Well I usually start on D as a matter of fact'
"I wandered alone in the desert and cried "Oh Lord! Oh Lord! What hast thou done, lately?"
"Thought is not a saffron-robed monk pissing in the snow"
"Bitterness slowly crept into the marriage and by the time Lovborg was six years old his parents exchanged gunfire daily"
Please allow me to use the adjectives the way I think appropriate. You of course have the right to disagree, but I still stand by dull.
But of course, old chap! You may fling your adjectives around with wild abandon, no matter how ill judged their target. Music is subjective and all that.

There were some very good songs on some of those albums. To be fair For Those About To Rock was not much different from Back In Black. The problem is that not one of those albums exhibited the "complete album" cohesion of Back In Black.
You did forget Flick Of The Switch which contained the excellent single Bedlam In Belgium.
Absolutely! The only tune I like on there is 'Money Made'. You're dead right re Flick of the Switch. There's a couple other good ones on there - Landslide and Guns For Hire, if memory serves.

So just to make sure I understand you. Music is subjective and all that. However, my using dull is "flinging adjectives around with wild abandon and ill judged"....and apparently, I can't shoot straight either so to speak.
You however using "outstanding" to describe what I think are mostly boring as hell recordings is somehow completely different....umm....because you say so?
À chacun son goût on that as well, I guess.

"There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind."
- Duke Ellington
“Hatred is the coward's revenge for being intimidated.”
- George Bernard Shaw
"As iron is eaten away by rust, so the envious are consumed by their own passion."
Even though I think you're actually one of the truly hippest people on here....my lawyer informs me that I should give you a fair warning. You being "the moldiest of figs" and all.
Do not attempt to google and listen to that!

I swear to the non-existent deity buddy, but if you say that again, so help me but I'm gonna find you and, and, and do something!
Re subjectivity etc. I'll fight you on that. Those R'head records are not dull, even if you find them so. I reserve the right to make the case for that.

It would have to come down to Dirty Deeds, Highway To Hell, and Back In Black. It is interesting that those three albums contain one of each of my three favorite AC/DC songs. Ride On, Night Prowler, and Hells Bells. In no particular order.
Highway To Hell likely has the top songs of all but Back In Black is the most complete album front to back. As you can tell I am working this out in my head as I type which is a testament to how great much of AC/DC's early albums were.
At the end of the day I have to go with Back In Black. The "end of the day" tomorrow may yield a different result.

Great answer!
For me I've always rated the live album If You Want Blood You've Got It, with amazing versions of some of their very best tunes. Then there's Powerage - the overlooked contender. I mean you've got Sin City, Give Me a Bullet, Rock'n'Roll Damnation, Gone Shooting. Oh, and Riff Raff which is one of my favourites.
So to recap, my top 3 would be Back in Black, Powerage, and IYWBYGI, with Highway to Hell and For Those About To Rock filling out a Top 5.

What did you think of the over-played track Who Made Who?
I have to admit I thought it was a really great song. Perhaps the last really great one they made.
DD has some good tracks - particularly Ride On and the title track, which are timeless.
Re Who Made Who, which was done for the Maximum Overdrive soundtrack I believe, as Stephen King is a huge AC/DC fan. I love this story - I read an interview with the guys who said the Stephen freaked them out - very intense eyes apparently!
Anyways, I happen to think they've written a number of great songs in their later period - Thunderstruck, Heatseeker, Are You Ready, I could go on. I think a lot of the stuff off Blow Up Your Video is really catchy, and that album would be my go to one most often, now that I think of it. You got your Meanstreak, Go Zone, Some Sin For Nuthin' and the aforementioned Heatseeker. Man that's some catchy ass stuff right there.

Let there be Rock, Powerage and Highway to Hell. I think Baksheesh is on the money when he says Powerage is the overlooked contender. I very much like If You Want Blood... too.
That's a great tune Blue Train. Soundgarden rocked! I posted a few videos of theirs - including some live performances that looked (and sounded) absolutely awesome - in the Youtube videos thread. Too bad the guys never really got on apparently. Towards the end they were touring in separate limos I believe.
