    Melvins - Houdini

This may or may not still have Shirley Temple's daughter (Lori "Lorax" Black) on bass on some tracks. Buzz Osborne broke up with her and fired her from the group around this time.

what do you think about the new Wilco - I kind of like so far - MUCH better than the last 2 recordings

me - I listened to Too Beautiful to Burn a couple of times over the weekend - great 'old school' eai recording...

Too Beautiful To Burn is one of the few eai albums I thoroughly enjoy.

I agree with you on the new Wilco. VERY good album, IMO. Though I will disagree about it being MUCH better than the previous two albums. Wilco (the album), yes. Sky Blue Sky, no. Sky Blue Sky is a very slow grower, IMO. But an incredible album. I would put it right up there with A.M., Being There, and Summerteeth. It is 70's FM radio Rock done right (as horrible as that sounds). If it hasn't met your ear yet, I highly suggest giving it a little more room to breathe.

Nels Cline has really helped to transform this band, IMO. And I was never a huge fan of his before.

This first song on the The Whole Love, The Art of Almost, is pretty great. I was expecting another low key effort but which I was beginning to tire of. Wilco are superb live but I was getting disappointed with them on record. One of my favorite Wilco releases is the Live DVD Ashes of American Flags which comes with a free audio download of the material. This is the Wilco I play the most and it's quite a bit stronger than superb Kicking Television. Cline is superb throughout and perhaps this selection of live songs most closely resembles the concert I saw in Sydney.

Okay here it is: PUTS in Santa Ana on June 16th. What's REALLY painful is I'm going to be in LA to see my sister perform on that date; however, hers is a four night thing and I can see her on Sunday. So if anyway wants to go on Saturday, let me know: http://www.observatoryoc.com/events/back-to-basics

I know I have been lazy on this front. I will get around to posting in both threads everything.

I just wanted to say, I think I might have been caught in a wormhole which took me back in time.

    The Beach Boys
    Neil Young & Crazy Horse
    Patti Smith
    Joe Walsh

The best of those is Smith's. I would put it in her top 3.

Next would be Walsh. The music isn't anything exceptional....it's more the lyrics.

The Beach Boys can still harmonize....okay, taking into account modern studio engineering. The lyrics. Oh Vey!

Neil Young - Godawful just doesn't get across just how bad. Each track is worse than the previous one. It's like they all got drunk one night and decided to record something and each one is a first take....because they were too drunk for another one.

I said this before about Wlco with Cline. While I am happy it allows him to make a lot more money and get's him more attention then he would have.....I think he's completely wasted on their studio recordings.

He's only really allowed to showcase his ability and be Nels Cline....live.

His solo on Impossible Germany is one of the best Wilco moments on record. He also interjects nicely on the new one. Not wasted at all.
