Garrison Fewell & Eric Hofbauer At Johnny D's April 20th (Boston)
The Garrison Fewell/Eric Hofbauer Duo has just been added to a guitar-themed triple bill at Johnny D’s in Somerville, Massachusetts on Wednesday, April 20th.
Known as “two of Boston’s most adventurous guitarists” (Kevin Lowenthal, Boston Globe), Fewell and Hofbauer will perform selections from their 2008 debut, The Lady of Khartoum (Creative Nation Music), as well as related improvisations.
“This freewheeling pan-cultural duo helps show that jazz’s family tree has some pretty deep roots,” writes Signal To Noise reviewer Nathan Turk.
Critics have noted the pair’s “original brand of 21st century free jazz fused with ancient world music elements” (Owen McNally, Hartford Courant), and described its work as “extraordinary” (The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings, Ninth Edition), “deft and inventive” (Brian Marley, The Wire) and “something special” (Nic Jones, AllAboutJazz.com).
Adventures in Sound (featuring slide guitarist David Tronzo) and Dave Fiucszynski’s KiF will also perform on the program, which begins at 8:00 p.m.
