Beatles live at the BBC
I had this on cassette not long after it came out and liked it then. I picked it up again on CD and must say I really enjoy it. Most tracks don't sound obviously live, but I guess they are. Certainly there are differences from the studio versions, with these tracks pared down. The Beatles really fly through their material, but in the early days brevity was the thing. All of these tracks sound very early; I don't know if even the year 1965 is reached.
But the main reason for this being a treasure trove is that probably 30 tracks are ones you've never heard before--that is, by the Beatles. Their roots are on full display, with many Chuck Berry titles, Little Richard, Elvis, Ray Charles, girl groups, etc. I've always enjoyed their take on "oldies," but of course the Beatles would never have become so great had they not predominantly written their own songs. But there sure is a lot of fun and energy on these two jammed CDs. Much of Anthology 1 is in the same vein.

I have this two cd set. Something I should really try to listen to more often as I recall it being very good.
