Sweet clip rollie, thanks! The cat is melodic to boot.
Reminds me of a Max Roach documentary I saw one time. Actually, wasn't there a 'melodic drummers' thread floating around here at one time? I'd include Paul Motion and Roach for starters. Dunno how much discussion it would start though.

Re fave drummer threads, looks like BT kinda screwed the pooch on this one.

Go back and read my post and make sure to check the time/date stamp. Then get back to me about which of us made the mistake.

Let's hear it for the great musician, mentor and teacher, Alan Dawson!

    Didn't fly under my radar.

What I was implying - and I thought it was pretty specific given your opening statement on this thread - was that given that there are two other threads addressed to this thread topic already in existence, that opening statement of yours was a little off.

I hope you didn't think my was intended as viciously sarcastic - I thought that we were on good enough terms that you would know it was implied with a

I don't understand the relevance of the Time/Date stamp thing. You can call me snarky - which I was a bit - but that has nothing to do with the (extremely minor) issue here.

Anyway, I hope we're still cool.

George Schuller is one of my favorites. He lives and plays mostly in NYC, but he often makes it up in my neck of the woods, and I go to hear him whenever I can.

He played Friday in Great Barrington, MA, but I had to miss it. It was my beautiful bride's 58th birthday.

George, by the way, is the leader of "Orange Then Blue" in which *greats" like Tom Varner, Chris Speed, Tim Berne, Dave Douglas and others play.

    Leon Parker

If you have access to the New Yorker archives, there is a fantastic 1997 Whitney Balliett piece about Parker.

Michael Wimberly is the greatest percussion artist I know. I used to visit the gig where he performed with Charles Gayle, that was an unforgettable night!

What do you make of Lytton, Lovens and Stevens?

Here's Lovens in action with the AvS trio:
