Should I Buy the First Two Led Zeppelin Albums?

Inspired by Baksheesh in the thread about the Spin "Guitarists" lists, who says I should get Led Zeppelin I, I'm asking: should I?

My offhand personal rec is to listen to "Ramble On" from II and decide based on that. I don't recall hearing that much in random radio circumstances, but I do love that track, and wouldn't have really heard it without purchase.

In the metro-Detroit area just about every tune on the first two albums were played on rock radio here back in the day. Including Ramble On. Not sure about now since I don't listen to rock radio anymore.

Your purchase should depend on how much you like the albums. Since you're not from Saturn I take it you're familiar with both of them. If not I'm sure you can hear both albums in their entirety on Youtube.

Alex, this is the one you need to be getting.

I agree with my friend the Sheesh on Physical Graffiti. My personal favorite when it comes to Zeppelin albums.

BTW-I've noticed at Best Buy that all the Zep CDs are selling for like half the price they used to sell for. They were like $6.99 each. Even the double CD Physical Graffiti IIRC.

Now is the time to buy them if you want them.

    Nah, close thread.

I just gave that stuff a listen again, I just can't get with it. I can't really justify spending money on something that doesn't move me.

OTOH, after having just gotten and listened countless times to the first Pylon album, "Gyrate", I realize I gotta own everything Pylon issued.

Never was a Zeppelin fan. Black Dog was a fun listen. Perhaps Communication Breakdown. I never dug their overall sound. A little too mushy.

The first album is far and away my favorite.
