Has anyone checked out the seven disc Charles Mingus box? It sounds very promising.
I'm about a third of the way through it, and it's excellent! I'm sure the rest of it will be just as good. Highly recommended.
That's the period when I saw Mingus live most often - at Boston's Jazz Workshop, Lennies On The Turnpike, The Five Spot, and other places - so it brings back a lot of pleasant memories. Fortunately, a lot of Mingus's announcements, and dialogue with the band and the audience are left in, so that really brings it all back!
