    Brownstone Jazz in Brooklyn

I was pleased to see a segment on tonight's NBC Nightly News, anchored by Lester Holt, on this wonderful old brownstone in Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn which is being used for a jazz venue on a weekly basis. And, Lester sat in on acoustic bass, acquitting himself very nicely, including a brief, tasteful solo.

What a hip story, where you'd least expect it.

Has anyone here attended one of these sessions?

I like the "fish fry" in the basement as an integral part of the evening. I hope they serve hush puppies, too.

Seems like a no-brainer for a good time on a Friday evening. And, all for $20.00, no less.

I have heard of it, but never been there when back in NYC. They never seem to have anyone worth going over the bridge to go see.

    Anyway,

P.S. There are still a lot of places to see really great Jazz performances in Brooklyn.

I suggest that we do ourselves a major disservice if we decide to only listen to musicians and singers whose names we already know. I can't count the number of times I've been pleasantly surprised by the talents of someone whose name was totally unfamiliar to me prior to hearing them play and/or sing.

As for Brownstone Jazz, I imagine that very few names appearing on Friday evenings would be familiar to most jazz fans. In the words of a famous jazz tune title which I imagine is familiar to most jazz fans ... So What?
