Widow of Oscar Peterson suing Hilary Cole
A sultry singer who was the last to record with jazz pianist Oscar Peterson is being sued by his widow for copyright infringement.
The legal dispute centers on four tracks that crooner Hilary Kole made with the celebrated jazz musician just months before he died in December 2007.
His widow, Kelly Peterson, filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Federal Court this week, accusing Kole of giving copies of the songs to an Internet radio program.
The radio program played at least one of the tunes, Peterson’s widow alleged in the lawsuit.
She’s seeking $1 million in damages and the return of the copied songs.
The tracks feature Grammy-winning Peterson — acclaimed for his modern, trio-piano sound — plinking away on American standards such as “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered,” as well as “Our Love is Here to Stay,” “My Romance” and the soulful “More Than You Know.”
