Billy Harper Quintet at Smoke 3/2/13

Enjoyed a wonderful gig by the talented and personable Billy Harper and his quintet last night. The group also included Freddie Hendrix on trumpet, Francesca Tanksley - piano; Hans Glawischnig - bass; Aaron Scott - drums. The compositions, virtuosity and interplay of this tight - yet loose - band were all sublime. Wonderful evening.

Haven't seen him playing with his own group in quite sometime. Nice to see that he's still got Francesca holding down the piano.

Yeah, BF It was nice to hear her. I read that they've been playing together for almost 30 years!

I never would have guessed! But......it makes sense now that I think about it.

I've heard Francesca play twice in the last few months at the Blue Plate in Chatham, NY. She is fantastic.
