The World's Most Wanted Hat -- the Kurwood Derby -- was in a Rockey and Bullwinkle episode.

Jay Ward was a genius. this is from wikipedia:

Ward fought many heated battles over content with the network and sponsor, but had little fear of censorship or lawsuits. The Kirward Derby, a hat that made everyone stupid and Bullwinkle a genius, was named for Durward Kirby, sidekick of 1950 and 1960s TV host Garry Moore. When CBS tried to sue, Ward quipped, "We need the publicity. This was often a punchline in gags such as:

Rocky: "I think somebody's trying to kill us!"
Bullwinkle: "Well, don't worry. We'll be renewed."
Rocky: "I wasn't talking about the Bullwinkle Show."
Bullwinkle: "Well, you'd better! We could use the publicity!"

An eccentric and proud of it, Ward was known for pulling an unusual publicity stunt that coincided with a national crisis. Ward bought an island in Minnesota near his home and dubbed it "Moosylvania," based upon the home of his most famous TV character Bullwinkle. He and publicist Howard Brandy crossed the country in a van, gathering signatures on a petition for statehood for Moosylvania. They then visited Washington, D.C. and attempted to gain an audience with President John F. Kennedy. They arrived at the White House during the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis and were escorted off the grounds at gunpoint.

Great trip. Enjoyed the Risotto mit Wurst in Lugano.

My daughter and I took the trip together. She was going to college in Zurich in the fall of 2011, so I met her in Zurich adn we took the train around Switzerland.

Bern was probably my favorite city of those we visited, but seeing the Matterhorn was the highlight of the trip for me.

Glad you enjoyed it. I don't know how you got into the Ticino but a great railroad experience for me is the Gotthard tunnel; maybe 15 minutes in the tunnel and you come out in a completely different world.

From mid 2005-mid 2007 I lived in an apartment building on West 79th street, next to the apartment building where Philip Roth has an office and/or apartment. I saw him around the neighborhood fairly often. Often enough to have overheard a couple of conversations; at the drug store and the business services store where he was printing and/or sending his new manuscript to his publisher. After discussing his needs to the guy behind the counter, another customer, in a casual, friendly manner said " Another new book?" Roth replied, equally casually "Gotta pay the bills." The person from the store who was helping him came back to the counter and told Roth the price for his 391 manuscript pages. I could lie and say I said "391 pages; you can REALLY write!, but I swear I actually thought of it at the time.

One time when i was dropping my girlfriend (later wife) off at the Little Rock airport to fly back to Albany (she grew up in Rensselaer County), I saw a little guy with wild curly grey hair, and wearing scruffy jeans and a ratty down jacket. He was waiting for the same flight, headed east.

I whispered to my girlfriend, "that guy looks an awful lot like Norman Mailer. If you sit at all close to him, try to find out."

He sat right in front of her, as she got up once to go to the powder room, she asked, "My boyfriend insisted that I ask if you are Norman Mailer."

He said, "Why, yes, I am." They exchanged a few war stories about both having significant others who were from Arkansas (Mailer's sixth wife was from Russellville, AR), and she said, "Well, I will leave you to your crossword puzzle." He said, "Yea, it's riveting!"

Here you see why Mailer was flying to Arkansas:

I once saw Mailer walking on the street towards the end of his life. The alleged tough guy at this point looked like an amiable little Leprechaun! Now that I think of it, the Upper West Side has been a great place for me to spot authors: Roth, Mailer and Updike is not a bad trio.

I think I may not fully appreciate Darryl because I'm too distracted by the plurals thing. It doesn't seem to fit and it breaks the flow for me.
