Mike,
How'd the show with Tony go? I recently listened to his new CD, Warblepeck, and really dug it. It was great playing with him in the Hollenbeck group this past Sunday as well. It was part of an entire afternoon celebration of Meredith Monk's music with many different ensembles. It was wonderful to hear her do music from very early in her career all the way up to what she's doing now. Truly inspiring.
And also Mike, e-mail me your address so I can send you a radio-play copy of my latest release..."Every So Often" a duo with pianist Sylvie Courvoisier.

Also for NYC area folks:

Terrence McManus (electric classical guitar, compositions)
Gerry Hemingway (drums)
Ellery Eskelin (saxophone)

It was great having Tony on the program!
Warblepeck grabbed my attention from the first listen; add to that the great & wide scope that Tony is involved with peaked my interest. We demonstrated it by playing some really nice things Tony contributed to from trumpeter Ron Horton, Fred Hersch Trio +2, and Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra CD's in the time before the interview, then turned our attention to Warblepeck during the interview and beyond.
(e-mail to follow......)

Just wanted to share some excitement over an upcoming new release...
Next month hatOLOGY will release my first ever live recording. This being a concert done by the band (myself, Andrea Parkins & Jim Black) in December 2007 in Baltimore. Given all I've had to say in the past about live concerts and recordings we finally got all the conditions properly working together in order to document one of our live gigs. I just got through listening to the final mastering of the CD. I'm really very happy about it and wanted to let folks here know that it will be on the streets as of April 24th...

Thanks guys...I'll be sure to make an announcement around the release date. I'll be on tour end of April and back in the states mid May with copies.
Also just heard the tracks that Gerry Hemingway and I made together last August. We just have to go through and pick the best cuts. Hope to get that out before long as well.
Folks in Europe please check the web site for upcoming tour dates. Hope to see some of you in person. Computers have their good points in getting all this info out there but we look forward to quality face to face time on the road...

DMG and Jazz Loft should both be carrying it. I think it's in the pipeline to them and should be listed soon. In the meantime it can be ordered via my website...

I just wanted to point to Ellery's blog and particularly what he wrote about Paul Motian on the day of his death. It's a must-read.

I realize it's been a few months close to 3-years since Ellery Eskelin last posted, but does anyone know what is going on with Andrea Parkins? Except for very few occasional live dates in the last couple years; she seems to have really cut back her involvement in music. The last recording which I could fins she was a part of was was in 2009.

Considering that will be 5 months after the last time she performed live....it adds to my question.

Do you need to even ask that question at this point?

Hey Gang…
It's been awhile. I see there's been a few posts back from November. Maybe I should catch ya'll up a little. Someone asked about Andrea Parkins. She's been very active in fact. Her facebook page is pretty up to date I think. It's been a few years since Andrea, Jim and I have done a gig together. But it's always in the back of my mind. Our last tour was in 2010 and I feel there was some unfinished business musically that should be pursued at some point.
I've been getting a new project off the ground however, called "Trio New York" with Hammond organist Gary Versace & drummer Gerald Cleaver. Plus I've been putting together various groups at the Cornelia Street Cafe (in Greenwich Village) from time to time, (next one will be on May 3rd with Jacob Sacks on piano, Brad Jones on bass and Tyshawn Sorey on drums).
Been blogging a bit. Couple of recent subjects...Thirty Years in NYC and What is Modern?
And have just released a new recording, the second by Trio New York entitled "Trio New York II". Here's our promo video…

I ordered the new CD as well. Loved the first one. Still mad that I had a conflict when the trio performed at Firehouse 12 in New Haven last June. I would have loved to experience that ensemble in what I repeatedly say is my favorite venue for listening in CT.

Yea, the Firehouse 12 gig was memorable. We did record it, I have to go back and listen but perhaps that could see the light of day at some point…

Received the disc today and having a first listen as I work this evening since it's a relatively quite night at the office. Exceptional as always, I really liked the first disc from this group but I think this is a step up again. I hope to have some more dedicated listening time in the near future but thought I would stop in and give my first impression. Congrats on a great piece of work Ellery.

Also listened to it for the first time today at the office, and later in the car. Ellery is a great Monk interpreter, and I think that track is the standout so far for me.

I concur with the previous two comments about the new disc, including CraigP's impression of the Monk tune. Hope to have an opportunity to hear this ensemble live at some point.

with a twist
Really enjoyed the video, and hearing from Ellery again. It's been a while since I saw him play. Way back in 2001? at the Knitting Factory, in the basement. It was the Vanishing Point group, with M. Maneri, Erik Friedlander, Mark Dresser, and Mat Moran. I'd really like to make it to one of the July shows.

Ellery:
First off, great to hear about Andrea. She just seemed to have disappeared when I initially brought my question up. I have seen you, Andrea and Jim perform in Europe. Several of us (family and friends) recently saw Jim with Michael Formanek's Cheating Heart @ the Cornelia Street Cafe.
I will be ordering the new recording.

stone…I remember that gig. In fact, it was the only live performance by that group. Wasn't long after 9/11. You could still smell that electrical smell in the air outside.
steve…be sure to say hello...
blue…thanks and hope to see you live one of these times…

2013 is shaping up to be a great year with yet another release from Ellery:

That should be an interesting sound with pedal steel and bass.
