    Joan Baez' birthday

    Happy Birthday, Joan.
Grateful she used Hampton Hawes on "Children and All That Jazz" (DIAMONDS & RUST) and Tommy Tedesco (GRACIAS A LA VIDA)...

Is that why she's not in the alley?

One of the all-time greatest voices to ever approach a microphone. She belongs anywhere.

    Happy B-Day, Joan!

I hope she has a happy birthday, but are you serious?

Quality, purity of tone, cultural and artistic impact...yeah, I'd say she's right up there. I mean, personally I'd rather listen to Dinah, Ella, Barbra Streisand, Aretha, or Leontyne Price, but let's face it, Joan Baez is a frickin' icon.

I'd have a tough time choosing between Baez & Streisand.

Happy Birthday, Joan! I always enjoyed your singing and appreciated your political engagment, which was of a different order than the chi-chi celebrity politicking these days.

Icon, to be sure... but imo she's not in the vocal company of the above named.

Icon, to be sure, but that's hardly the same as having a great voice. I applaud her wholeheartedly, though, for her dedication, commitment, ethics, etc. And, last but not least, I'd love to look like her!! LOL!!
