Maybe you should ask that question on the "sex in the audience" thread.

On the "what are you eating" thread, Rita whetted my appetite for Turkish food at Levantes. If anybody wants to chow down there on Thursday the 26th, lemme know.

I guess I'll have my biennial Ethiopian meal at Twins (I like Ethiopian food well enough, but a little goes a looooong way, IMO, and I do not consider injera one of the great breads of the world).

Yo, Clay Fink, are you out there? Coming to Twins for Malachi Thompson?

I'm in NYC 6/24-26, so I won't make it on the 26th. Levante's is probably convenient for you, but there is better Turkish elsewhere. Anatolia at the Eastern Market Metro stop on Capitol Hill gets better reviews. Also, Cafe' Divan just north of Georgetown has gotten very good reviews after a slow start last year.

I usually stick with the Caribbean cuisine at Twins.

No, I like Ornette OK, but I decided to pass. I've also had my Charlie Haden quota for the past year. I'm going to Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds at Roseland early and Crispell/Gress/Motian late. When do you leave for DC?

    Pete--

    Disclaimers re Levante's:

    1. It's trendy! On a Friday night, the Bethesda branch was full and rather noisy.

    2. It struck me as being as much Greek as Turkish. (BWTFDIK?) From the pide menu link I posted, you can get to the rest of the menu--did you look at it?

    3. I mentioned it only because y'all were talking about pides, of which it has plenty, and because it's right in Dupont Circle. (And I did enjoy my meal at the Bethesda branch.)

I don't know the two places that Fred mentioned, but one can certainly commute to each of them. Details on request. (For that matter, a cab ride from Dupont Circle to North Georgetown wouldn't break you.)

Theoretically, I can make it to dinner on Thursday the 26th, but you'll have to decide how much you want to see of us, or me, because I'd like to go to Twins, and although we haven't discussed this, I was hoping to spend some time "in Mali" with you too.

P.S.--If you want a dose of Ethiopian somewhere other than at Twins, DC is a good town for it, and Adams Morgan is a good neighborhood for it. But you don't seem very enthusiastic about Ethiopian. I love injera!

Rita, outside of Jazz Corner people I don't have any friends currently in the area, so I'd be happy for the company on the 26th and in Malioid. I love Adams Morgan, but I'd be inclined toward something other than Ethiopian. I like Khyber Pass, near the Ellington Bridge, though I eat lots of Afghan in NY. Dupont Circle seems to be a surprisingly poor restaurant neighborhood, given the demographics.

I leave on the morning of the 26th. I was sorry that Crispell & Ornette are the same night. By the way, Helias, not Gress, is listed as the bassist. I saw that trio in SF last year, when Helias replaced the ailing Peacock. I can't say it had the same magic as the trio with Peacock.

That's gonna take a lot of air.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I'll be at client site in California by then (I know I've been leaving for two months, but this time it's for real), but I'll keep y'all posted.

And at Twins too, or would you like to make that an evening with Fred only? Whatever you like! If you haven't decided yet, just let me know eventually.

Re restaurants: I also hunted for the absolutely most recommended Vietnamese restaurant in the area for you, and found it, but it's a real commute--it's in Eden Center, which Sergio once mentioned to you, a few blocks from the East Falls Church (VA) Metro station. FYI:

    restaurant: Huong Viet

    http://www.chowhound.com/midatlantic...ges/15958.html

    dish recs:

    http://www.chowhound.com/midatlantic...ges/15969.html

someone else: I'd second the many past recommendations for Huong Viet in Eden Center, though plan ahead--it is cash-only.

    directions:

    http://www.chowhound.com/midatlantic...ges/15970.html

"In Eden Center, a few doors to the left of Huong Que . . ."

P.S.--I'm not sure whether Khyber Pass is still there. I have a vague notion that another Afghan restaurant replaced it. I'll try to check.

Great! I'll put it on the calender. I can make reservations if I'm reminded. Pete. Are travelling alone or with a companion? Ditto Rita and Fred. I'll drag Harriet along and torture her again with jazz. (Actually, she likes Twins and I think she would like Malachi, she had an alergic reaction at the Vision Fest, however.)

They need to read this thread and respond, unless someone is willing to try to reach them privately.

DC area folks, please see the posts about "Petefest," June 26 through June 28 (approximately). In particular, there's an excursion to Twins on June 27 for which heads are being counted so that reservations can be made.

Sergio, you've stuck around this long, so can't you stick around a little longer? Do it!

I'd suggest hiring an image consultant to come up with a more appealing name.

Good idea, Pete. We'll send you the bill, along with the bills for your multi-maiden lei greeting at the airport, the motorcade to your hotel, the flowers and champagne in your room upon your arrival, and so on.

Don't worry, Pete. We'll tell the maidens to take their leis to Union Station instead.

    No! Where?

That's why I would never make a real effort to steer you toward one DC eating place or another. For various reasons, you probably know more about them than I do, and your instincts for such things are better than mine.

Edit: Come to think of it, I don't know what a bad masala dosa would be like. Aren't they pretty much foolproof? But offhand, I don't know where to find any masala dosa at Union Station.

It's in the food court. A search reveals it's called Indian Delight. They make dosas & utthapams to order. I've never had a dreadful masala dosa, but the stuffing and spicing thereof certainly varies.
