My thoughts are with you, Crawjo.
In the final analysis, our children are the ones who will carry on for us and they are more precious than rubies.
I hope things go well for your little one.

All the best with this, crawjo -- I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

A couple of months ago I thought I was going to lose my 14-year old daughter in my arms while we waited for the response to my wife's 911 call. We heard her cry out and found her on the floor, out cold and unresponsive. I've never been as frightened or felt as helpless in my life. It turned out to be relatively benign -- she has a habit of cracking her neck, and that pinched her carotid artery causing her to black out. She's going to physical therapy for some flexibility exercises. I dearly hope your daughter's problem is resolved positively, too.

Being so inclined, I will be praying AND playing (both MiLES and SMiLE) on behalf of you, your wife, your daughter, and your daughter's doctors. Take comfort in the amazing abilities of today's medicine. The healthcare system itself may be a piece of shit, but the technology and techniques are sound and effective.

Be positive and let the healing come to you all.

In particular, Miles Davis is very soothing music for her.
I'm sendering her a prayer and some Miles.

Thank you guys. This is indeed really, really hard. I'm just sick with worry right now. Unfortunately, I couldn't stay with her in the hospital tonight (my wife is there), because I've come down with a bit of a cold and I can't risk passing it on to her when she has to be strong for her surgery on Friday morning. So I'm home, trying to figure out what to do with myself (get some rest hopefully, we'll see.)

Jesse, her name is Anna Elizabeth Jones.

Anyway, not knowing what to do with myself tonight, it was very comforting to come on here and read all the warm responses. The neurosurgeon we spoke with this morning, who will be leading the surgery, seemed optimistic that it would go well and she will be able to make a recovery. She's at a very good age for this to be discovered. At 15 months, she's old enough to handle surgery, but also young enough in her development that her brain will be able to recover more swiftly, and she can relearn how to do things more easily than someone older.

Anyway, when I left her at the hospital this evening she was resting comfortably. Despite everything, she's not in any pain right now (except when the nurses come in and stick a needle in her arm). She's very tired from everything, as well as the anti-seizure medication they have put her on, but she seems able to sleep pretty soundly.

It's amazing how quickly things can change. Until this, my girl had not had one medical problem whatsoever. Not even a cold or a high fever. Over the holidays she was happy and healthy as ever. This really came out of nowhere.

Thank you for all your best wishes, and please keep her in your thoughts and prayers this week. I will post more updates when I have the opportunity.

    Crawjo--

Sorry I'm late to this thread. Please forgive me for giving you advice, but I think that it's very important: Make sure that every doctor who comes on the scene knows or remembers that your daughter's condition was inherited (and how it has and hasn't affected you).

I'll pray for strength and courage for you and your wife and a perfect healing for your daughter (and thanks; knowing her name will help me too). And I'll put on some Miles for good measure.

David, I'm listening to Herbie Hancock's Little One from Miles' ESP as I type this message, while thinking positive thoughts for little Anna.

I've also pulled In A Silent Way from our collection for additional positivity. I'm well-armed in the Miles department. I'll also spin Witchi Tai To from Jim Pepper, because Jim felt this peyote chant had healing powers. That's good enough for me.

Your family will remain in my thoughts.

Sounds very promising. I prayed silently at home for her, as well as at a minyan service at my temple this evening. I also played Kind of Blue (which to me has never meant sad, only peaceful), in particular thinking of your daughter during "All Blues," which I've always felt has a tempo and bounce much like a child skipping playfully; and Brian Wilson's SMiLE, which opens with "Our Prayer" and includes a suite on the specialness of children.

"A children's song/Have you listened as they play?
Their song is love/And the children know the way."

    Best,

    Jason

We are sending healing beams to your little girl, Anna Elizabeth Jones. And to you and your wife, Crawjo.

Make sure you are extra-careful when driving, ironing, etc. These are the times when accidents happen to us. Please be careful.

    With love,

    Doug and Glenda Robinson

Actually, Ron, In A Silent Way is really her favorite music. Especially when she was younger, whenever she became upset or cranky I would put that album on and rock her to sleep. She found it very comforting. I could do much the same with Miles Smiles. Actually, she's always found the sound of his trumpet intoxicating and comforting, I think.

I was able to get some rest last night: about nine hours worth, although I was woken up a couple of times. I'm back at the hospital, but unfortunately I still have to keep a bit of distance from Anna, because my cold has persisted. The nice thing is that the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit here at the hospital has a Ronald McDonald family room, where we can come in, go on the Internet, watch tv, or just relax on a couch. That's been very helpful.

It really sucks that this happened during absolutely the coldest week of the year. The low yesterday was -1. Today it is up to 14 degrees.

I think Anna has started to realize that something isn't right. This morning I saw her wiggling her fingers on her left hand, her good hand, and then when she looked at her right hand, she couldn't get her fingers to do the same thing, so she started manually moving her fingers on her right hand with her left hand.

I just hope we are taking all the right precautions. The doctor who will be performing the surgery is the best pediatric neurosurgeon in upstate New York. We checked into his past on the Internet and he's been practicing for 30 years, and at least for the last 15 years, as far back as the records go, he hasn't had any claims made against him.

Peace and blessings to you all.

This morning, I took out Miles Smiles, because I'm hoping you all will be smiling soon, and Jack Johnson, a tribute to a fighter: your daughter.

I'm the praying kind myself, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to play 'Miles runs the voodoo down' at the same time...

All the best to your daughter. 15 months is entirely the wrong side of life to be getting sick.

    Scott,

I'll keep that in mind about Ronald McDonald.

Today the nurses kicked me out of the hospital completely, because of my cold. Worst fucking time to come down with a cold. I'm hoping that I will be over it tomorrow so I can go back, so I'm drinking a lot of fluids and resting. Anna has been moved to a different room, and is undergoing another MRI tonight, which will give the doctors a better picture of the area they will be operating on.

Again, thank you all for your prayers and kind wishes.

I just finished playing In A Silent Way and have ESP spinning right now. Little One just finished, and on to R.J.. How appropriate.

    Good luck Friday, little Anna.

Wow, Crawjo...I just opened this thread and I wanted to cry out loud.

I have a daughter, too....and FWIW, I empathize completely with what you must be feeling right now.

I do pray. You and Anna will be on my mind tonight.

    Go easy, my friend.
