    Official paczki thread

It's Fat Tuesday and I ate a paczki. A big f**king paczki. Custard filled with chocolate icing. Had to be upwards of 1,000 calories. I'm done eating for the day. It was really good. OK, I might eat one more. Maybe two more. Tops. I doubt I'll eat more than three or four today. Five tops. Yum.

    No Kerouac,
    Larry

    Stolen from the WWW:

    Servings: 1

    1 Cup Sweet cream
    2 Yeast cakes
    10 Egg yolk
    1 Teaspoon Salt
    5 Tablespoons Butter
    4 Cups Flour
    2 Ounces Rum
    6 Tablespoons Sugar

Recipe by: Mrs. Stalney Smialowski heat cream to luke warm. add salt and egg youlks and beat till thick. cream butter and sugar. put these into large bowl, add yeast disolved w/ 1 tablespoon sugar and nix thoroughly. Add rum then flour and cream alternately and beat hard till dough blisters. set in warm place to rise. punch down and let rise again. place dough on floured surface and stretch and fill w/ pitted prunes. Fold over and cut into desired size balls. place on floured surface and let rise. fry in deep hot oil turning once. Paczki should be verry dark color before turning to ensure that they are thoroughly baked. drain on soft absorbent paper. sprinkle w/ powdered sugar.

Jesus, is it Paczki Day already?

For those in non-Polish areas, a Krispy Kreme jelly donut is a reasonable facsimile, although undersized. Eat three.

Lemme see what I can do to fulfill my religious obligation. There's some sort of parade going on downtown today (just like the Red Wings, Larry!), might make tracking down the goods a little difficult.

It sneaked up on all of us. Usually there's about a week long lead in around here in the media. But I woke up today and read something that reminded me it was today. Everyone I know says it came suddenly this year.

We should ask shrugs. I'm pretty sure he's at least partially responsible for the existence of the whole beads thing.

Funny you should post that image, because that's what I wore to work today. It's a bitch driving in this weather with the sunroof open, but I wasn't about to take the headdress off after all the time it took to fasten in place.

Right in the middle of Jos Campau Avenue, too. You must have looked like a Guindon cartoon, Larry.
